Central Awards Distribution / Grand Prize Sweepstakes XVII / Central Award Distribution Judges Div. Enter to win $2,000,000, but pay $11.89 application fee Kansas City Kansas

Show customers why they should trust your business over your competitors...

It's a scam where someone gives you their name, then tells you that you can pay a $11.89 application fee ("Premium Offer Acquisition/Securement") to win $2,000,000.

This is a very clever scam; it looks official and also happened to arrive after I had entered the Publishers Clearing House sweepstakes (since entry is free and I've confirmed that they're a legitimate organization). I highly suspect it's piggybacking off of PCH's mailing list because it somewhat resembles their documents, it only started arriving after I entered the PCH sweepstakes, and is also sent to me at almost the same frequency as PCH.

It also comes with a slip of paper with a lot of fine print about the "Grand Prize Sweepstakes XVII Official Rules" and even has the same disclaimer as PCH:

NO PURCHASE NECESSARY TO ENTER OR WIN. PURCHASING DOES NOT IMPROVE YOUR CHANCES OF WINNING, YOU HAVE NOT YET WON.

They really went out of their way to make this appear legitimate. Here's some of the opening text from this 2-page letter/form/authorization slip, typed as it appears on the document (except for the "[FIRST + LAST NAME]"):
