I purchased a "certified pre-owned" 2004 nissan maxima from Cerritos Nissan in Aug. of 2005. I will never buy a nissan again.

I took it to get an oil change and the "service advisor", Phillipe Lopez, told me that I need the driving belt replaced and it will cost $160.00. I told him I have only had it for 11 months how could it need to be replaced? He had no answer, I told him I would come back to do that on a different day.

That was a Friday, come Monday my "service engine soon" light went on. I called the service dept. and told them. They told me to bring it in as soon as possible b/c they will have to do a diagnostic on it.

I took it on Thursday, (one week after the oil change). I told them just to take care of the driving belt and let me know why the "service engine" light was on. The service advisor, Oskar Caastillo, asked me if they took care of the recall on friday. I told him NO, "they didn't tell me there was a recall". He said they will take care of that, "today".

Oskar called me that afternoon and said they have "bad news". "The air fuel ratio sensor needs to be replaced", he said, "it will cost $365.00". I asked him if it was under my extended warranty. He said there are no warranties that will cover that part. I asked him how urgent it is. He told me it needs to be done right away or my car will overheat. So, I told him to go ahead and fix it.

I picked up my car that evening and told him I'm not very happy that I just purchased this nissan less than a year ago & I'm already having to put $500 into it and nothing's covered under the $2059.00 warranty I purchased from Nissan. Nissan's must be really bad cars. I own a 2001 Ford F150 that has over 60,000 miles on it and I have never had to replace anything but the break pads! He just shrugged his shoulders and said "it's a really good car though."

SO, I paid the $531.00 bill, took my car & left. I figured I would just talk to the service manager on monday and call the Nissan Motor Corp. Then Saturday afternoon I started my car and the "service engine soon" light came on again(I had already drove my car 3 different times since I brought it home on Friday). I was very upset so I took it straight back to the dealership service dept., straight back to Oskar. He said, we'll do another diagnostic to see what's wrong. I sat, and sat, waiting about an hour I told him I have to leave so just to give me the car so I can leave. He asked me if I could bring it back on Monday, I told him, "NO, I have to work". He asked how much time I have. I told him 10 minutes. He said ok. After 15 min. I went into his office, he said follow me to the cashier to get your paper work. Then he told me the light just had to be reset, sometimes it doesn't take the first time. I finally got my car after about 15 more minutes. I left.

I drove my car 2 times since I left the dealer, then on Sunday the "service engine soon" light went on again!

I feel they lied about having to replace the driving belt & the air fuel ratio sensor. Why would a 2004 Maxima need these parts replaced, I didn't wear them out in 11 months. Either the manufacturer has faulty parts to begin with OR nothing was ever wrong with them in the first place. The parts were listed as costing $175.00 & the other $325 was the labor they charged me. (the $35 belt cost $100 in labor).

Oh and by the way, when I took it to Oskar the first time, I showed him a strip of rubber that came off of the moon roof and told him that we already had that fixed by them once and it came off again. He said, "you don't really need that anyway". I thought he was kidding but when I picked up my car the strip was still laying on the floor.
