i got a letter that was set to an old address when i was staying w/ friends. It said that i wrote a check to At&t and that it was cashed at 711 but was returned unpaid. This company says that they bought my outstanding check from the m/erchant.

First of all, i write one check a month and that's for my rent and i haven't had service w/ At&t for about 5 years and why would they cash my check at 711. This is a bogus claim. They say that i can pay only $30 if im confidant that they $762 check will clear and if not i should mail the entire payment to thier PO Box address. Because of this website i know for sure that it's not a real claim. The letter was also addressed to At&t and it only had my last name on it that's how my friends knew the letter was for me and they wrote AT and T instead on At&t (i've never seen it written w/out the symbol b/4).

I'm hoping that the bank account information they have on file (since the address they have is very out of date) is from a closed bank acct i used to use instead on my current bank account. I plan on calling tomorrow to alert them so if the checked is presented i can disput the charge b/4 it does any damage to my credit report ( i will check that as well).

PS the letter didn't even state a check number just an amount and the phone number is just a recording and then it hangs up on you so you can't leave a message or talk to someone.
