Choice Transmission I took my car here because it was close. After 4 days the guy told me it'd be $2000to fix. It is a '93 bonneville. I told him there's no way I'm paying that and a tow truck is going to pick it up on friday. On thursday, he calls and magically the price drop $1200. Now, the same $2000 job is suddenly $800. He is a thief and a very transparent one. The job was $600 elsewhere. $2k or $600 your choice Gilbert Arizona

My car was acting as if it was driving over washboard, so I took it to my mechanic. He said the torque converter clutch solenoid was giving an error code 39. I took it to Choice Transmission, because it was the closest, and paid 300 for a tear down. The mechanic said a whole new rebuild is needed and it'd cost 2000.00 for parts and labor. It is a '93 Bonneville and the car isn't worth 2000.00. He said that since I'm not going to pay, he was going to leave the car on the hoist and had no plans on putting the transmission back in any time soon. Two weeks later, I called him and said a tow truck was getting the car and transmission. On thursday he called and said he'd do the same job for 800.00. I told him I'm not interested. The tow truck came, but he didn't turn over the transmission. What was he hiding? That only the solenoid needed to be replaced? One can only assume so, otherwise the transmission would have been returned as well. The same job was done for 600.00, parts and labor. An attempted 2000.00 price tag for a 600.00 job is a complete and total scam. These are the people have ability and knowledge but use it to hurt people who have done them no harm.

I just noticed that your response says that 2 grand is the right price for an overhaul. I didn't need an overhaul. Your own words prove you are a thief. For those who don't know, here is an overhaul
In an overhaul (also known as rebuilding a transmission), the transmission is removed from the vehicle and completely disassembled with the parts laid out on a workbench. Each part is inspected for wear and damage and then either cleaned in a special cleaning solution, or replaced with another part depending on its condition. Parts that have friction surfaces, such as bands and clutches are replaced as are all seals and gaskets. The torque converter is also replaced, usually with a remanufactured one.
This is not what was needed. You were going to do the wrong job.

I know of no mechanic who drops a price one thousand two hundred dollars just to be a nice guy. Price is determined by estimated time of repair (rounded up of course) and hourly rate. It's that or nothing. There is no "Hey, stranger, I'll give you a 1200 discount because I'm just that nice. HOWEVER, I'll only do it after you have called the tow already."
You say the 2000.00 price sounded right. It might sound right to you, but I had it done for 600 elsewhere. Look in your diagnostic records and you will see this is a legitimate (one time) customer. The mechanic was very rude, smoking inside the bay, and let my car sit for 2 weeks on the lift. He told me that he was in no hurry to get it back to me since I didn't pay. Holding my vehicle hostage I suppose.
The bottom line is what you consider a reasonable price for the work needed is 2000. The reasonable price at another shop was 600.
The $600 job had no smoking in the bay, no holding a vehicle hostage, no strong arm to get the job done on credit. The job was done right and I was treated professionally. The exact opposite of you.

Dear MR. Sickofripoffs
Ii dont know who you are and i certanly don't know if this realy happend or if it is a hoax as i dont have a name or any information other than you did not like the price.
It is so easy to take an evant like this one and make it sound like we are the crooks when realy people like you are the real crooks, becouse based on the year make and model of the vehicle 2000.00 is about right for an overhaul, and if the price was reduced to help you it is looked at as a bad thing.
Please provide me with some proof that you are a real customer.
John
