I sent Dave Parks a couple of bike valve covers for replating. Because of the complaints he's had in the past with not returning parts, I asked for a specific time required for the return of these parts. I was assured all the past complaints were 'unfair' and 'unwarranted', etc, and was explicitly told 8 to 10 days max. I have all the emails.

It has now been over 6 weeks and still no parts. I've emailed several times, and all I've gotten is one excuse after another of why they can't do the parts. First I was told the parts were in bad shape. They weren't. Then I was told they had equipment breakdowns.

Remember, these were 2 bikd valve covers, each about the size of an outstretched hand. These are not large parts. But, after 6 weeks, still no parts. These were for a project, and because the parts weren't returned, I had to buy replacement parts to complete the project. So I'm out the original parts, the money I paid to have the parts plated, and the cost of new parts. Good grief! The BBB has given this guy a grade of "F" due to complaints they have received. They still have their Ebay listing up. But contacting Ebay will be the next thing to get this taken down permanently.

I was ripped off by Chrome guy

AUTHOR: Steve - ()

POSTED: Tuesday, August 20, 2013

My Name is Stephen, I sent Dave a set of 20 inch truck wheels to be chromed after I contacted him via email asking if he could do something that big. he responded stating he could and that it would be at least a month before he could finish them because bike week was coming up and alot of orders were coming in. i had no problem with the time frame. i sent them wheels and waited approx 6 weeks and sent him an email he never responded. I called his phone and got in touch with him , he told me that he was still working on them and that it would another week or so. I waited another 2 weeks and gave him another call he stated he was having problems with his dip tanks and that once that was corrected he would be able to finish them. so i waited another week and gave him a call this time he told me he had 2 complete and was starting on the other 2 and it should be another week. During this time i had a family member get sick and was taking care of her and put off contacting Dave for a month. During this month i recieved no calls from Dave with info about the wheels. After that month went by i tried repeatedly to contact Dave  via phone and email with no luck. One evening i recieved a call from Dave with news about my wheels. It seems that he hasn't had them for quite some time. once he recieved my wheel he realized that his chrome plating system was far too small to accomodate my wheels so he took them to another local chrome shop that was capable of chrome plating my wheels. The business he took them to was holding them until Dave could come up with the money that was owed. after Dave told me this he had asked me to call the owner and explain that these were my wheels and ask him if he would hold onto them unitl Dave could get the money up to pay him. I did and the owner of the other chrome shop was very short and rude with me about Dave. it seems like Dave does his business partners like he does his customers. He will take larger items to this chrome shop and have them do the work once they complete the work Dave tells them to send him an invoice and he will pay them when he gets paid, the other chrome shops never get a dime from Dave.  When it comes to my wheels Dave was paid up front for the chrome job and additional money for Shipping. I have never recieved my wheels and don't have the money to sue him being that i am a Ga resident and Dave living in NC. This occured approxmately 3 years ago. im very sorry about this buti just came across this website and wanted other people to know that Dave is bad business. I managed to come across my wheels on EBAY for sale by the owner of the chrome that performed the work. i told him he was a crook and that he had stolen the wheels from me. I think my wheels should have been given back to me and the owner of the other chrome shop take it up with dave on the money that was owed. It just bad business all the way around

Parts Received

AUTHOR: Larry - (United States of America)

POSTED: Saturday, May 28, 2011

After I filed this report, and contacted Ebay about his listing, I then requested that he simply send me the parts, done or not and that I just wanted the parts back. Another 2 weeks go by and I finally receive the parts. They were polished to a point, but will need further polishing or chroming to be usable. I don't understand why they could not be chromed. But I don't chrome so . . .  However, they were chromed when I sent them. None of this, of course, explains why it took 2+ months to return parts unchromed that I was assured would take 8 to 10 days to chrome. Dave included a note with the returned parts indicating that I had a credit on a future chrome job. But why would I send Mr. Parks any more parts to chrome given his past record? Answer . . . I wouldn't, which makes the credit worthless. Here is what I believe happened, based on the email exchanges between myself and Dave Parks. They received the parts, which basically sat for some period of time, well beyond the 8-10 day turnaround they were to take. When, several weeks later I began to inquire about the parts, I was told Dave was having problems chroming them, then I was told they were having equipment problems. It wasn't until I filed this complaint, contacted Ebay, and asked for my parts to be returned as is, that Dave figured he should do something otherwise he'd have to return the payment. So, he did a litlte polishing on the boxes, and returned them with the 'credit'. I can't prove this, and to tell you the truth, I really have washed my hands of the whole deal. I'm a professional and I expect people to deal with me in a professional manner. It's not my job to tell you how to run your business, but in my opinion this is not the way to do it. After all the complaints about parts not getting done on time, parts not being returned (the local BBB has given this man's business a grade of "F"), I would think you would have made it a point to get these back on time. If you could not plate them, then you should have returned them along with my payment. Instead, you returned the parts unplated, 2 months late, and kept my money. Does anyone really believe this is the way to run a business?

Parts are back with owner!!!!

AUTHOR: Dave - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, May 25, 2011

The parts were returned to thier owner polished as best that they could be.  The parts were sanded, polished and ran three times.  The material was just so bad they would not plate with out pits and blisters.  This was explained to the owner of the parts, and that is why it was taking so long.  It is good that he bought replacement parts because they needed to be replaced.  I am not going to refund any money because of all the time that was put into the parts.  If he wants to send better parts I will plate them for him.  I have issued him a credit over the original cost I charged him.   I have pictures of the parts and the condition of the parts if anyone is interested in seeing them.  I also have pictures of LOTS of other parts I have plated that look great.  Not all metal can be made new again, we try but sometimes it just can't happen.  Email chromeguy@bellsouth.net if you want to see the parts and why they were not completed.  Thank you, Dave Parks...The Chrome Shop.  704-888-0112
