I made my last payment to Chrysler Financial August, 2003. In July I was told by the Collections Dept. that I still owe them $2,100. Upon hearing this (verbally) I requested an itemized statement showing how the amount owed was calculated and I was refused.

The collections dept. kept telling me it was in my contract. I read my contract and I could not ascertain still why I owed this money. I explained to the Collections Dept, that I did not understand the wording and to please send me a statement. I told them I had contacted an attorney and was advised that I should be send a statement. The collections dept still refused and said they were going to repossess my 1997 mini-van after making 60 payments and paying over $8,000 in finance charges.

I have had to hide my van because Chrysler is not willing to send me a statement, unwilling to spend $0.34 for a stamp. I find this appalling. Why Chrysler is allowed to demand $2,100 from me without any prior knowledge of owing this is beyond my comprehension. I received a monthly statement without any indication of this balance. I am a single parent living pay check to paycheck and cannot write out a check for $2,100. But, they would take my livelihood away from me without hesitation. Chrysler has to be one of the most ruthless companies I have ever had the displeasure of dealing with and I will never ever buy a Chrysler product again!

Simple Interest

With the information provided by your story, I can make an assessment as to why you owed so much money. You probably were on your final payment when you were told you owed this money. When a customer makes a payment the funds statisfy interest first then principal, that is how simple interest works. Judging from the amount owed, you probably pay your loan extremely late. This means you had a per deim (daily intrest amount) everyday you were late. So when you final payment came due you had a lot of unpaid principal due. So if you paid your bills on time you would not of owed this money.

As a representative of a vehicle finance company (not Chrysler), I am very sorry to hear about the way you have been treated. I am very interested in finding out if they ever sent the statement, and when you receive it, what they say you owe. I have seen accounts here that we were never able to verify the customer had insurance and we had force placed insurance onto the account, but that should have reflected on your statement if that's the case. Please update us as to what happens!
