For months now we've received a $12.00 charge on our debit card from the above. I know my husband has gotten credit reports online, but, it's not to be a constant charge. After seeing the charge today, I searched and saw all these complaints here and elsewhere about the same company. I can't get anyone on the 800 number and my bank tells us that there is NOTHING that can be done to stop recurring Debit charges, we have to go through the people.

I don't know what to do. While $12 is not a lot of money, it's certainly being taken from us.

SURELY the bank could put a stop on charges, to say otherwise is ridiculous if they can stop a check they can stop a debit charge.

I feel a little helpless after reading all these.

I HAD THE SAME 12.00 A MONTH CHARGE ON MY ACCOUNT AND ALL I HAD TO DO WAS GOTO THE WEBSITE (THE CORRECT ONE) AND TYPE IN WWW.CONSUMERINFO.COM AND UNDER THE LINK THAT READS faqs I CHOOSE "HOW DO I CANCEL MY MEMBERSHIP?" THEN I GOT A PHONE NUMBER 1-888-888-8553 CALLED THEM A MAN ANSWERED IMMEDIATLY, VERIFIED MY INFORMATION AND CANCELLED MY MEMBERSHIP. walah! NO MORE 12$ FEES.

NOW, THEY DO NOT CREDIT YOU ANY BALANCE, BUT THE INFORMATION WAS INVALUABLE AT THE TIME I NEEDED IT, AND ITS PAID FOR ITSELF IN MY OPINION.

JUST BE CAREFUL OF ALL ONLINE THINGS THAT PROMISE SOMETHING FREE FOR A TIME PERIOD, ONCE THEY HAVE YOU DEBIT AND CREDIT CARD NUMBERS YOU ARE AUTOMATICALLY PROMISING TO RENEW MEMBERSHIOS UNLESS YOU CANCEL DURRING THE CORRECT TIME PERIOD.

Hundreds of consumers have contacted our firm, CIC or Contemporary Information Corp., to resolve issues with ConsumerInfo.com. Please note - If you are a consumer and have received a charge on your credit card for $79.95 or similar amount for credit reports, you need to contact ConsumerInfo.com You can find their contact information on their website. CIC is in no way affiliated with ConsumerInfo.com therefore we cannot help you with any dispute that you may have with them.

The real CIC has been in business since 1986 and does not sell directly to the public. Furthermore we have contacted ConsumerInfo.com several times and asked them to stop using our trademarked name on their credit card charge transactions and on their website. We would respectfully request that ripoffreport.com use ConsumerInfo.com instead of CIC as it continues to mislead the consumer.

You have both been given correct information by your banks. Recurring charges cannot be stopped on check cards. By giving the merchant your info you are entering into an agreement. That agreement is keep on file at Visa or Mastercard. Even if you close your card the charges may continue to come through on your accounts, and banks are in violation of their agreements with Visa or Mastercard if they refuse the charges. THis is why stops cannot be done. You must deal with the merchant on matters where you provide them your information, which you have both done. The only way to guarantee the charges stop is to close your checking accounts and open new ones. And until you cancel your memberships with this merchant, you are not protected under Reg E. As unhappy as this may sound, you have been informed correctly by your banks. Please stop blaming your banks.

That's the part I don't understand about my bank as well....

They can't stop charges I do not authorize? That makes absolutely no sense at all! My bank wanted me to pay $28 to file a form to stop the payments. They also told me that it is not fraud if consumerinfo.com keeps taking the money out of my account after I canceled. The banks' definition of fraud is if I never gave them my account info to begin with and they took the money out. That is a bunch of bull! I told them to close my account and I'm done with them. I had $56 in overdraft charges the bank refued to take off my account because of their narrow definition of fraud. They said since I gave the info to being with, and even thought I canceled within 30 days, and even thought I have a statement from consumerinfo.com apologizing for taking the money AFTER I canceled within the appropriate time, and even thought consumerinfo.com had put the two $9.95 charges back into my account, the bank still insisted I was liable for the overdraft charges. They gave our non-payment of those charges information fo ChexSystems or whatever it is that keeps track of people that write bad checks. They did this even after we kept the bank in the loop as far as what was going on with consumerinfo.com in that I filed a report with the BBB responded telling me to fax them the statements showing their charges had caused the overdrafts and they'd issue me a $56 refund. I told the bank every step of the way what was going on. Three days before I got the refund check for the overdraft charges (that came from EXPERIAN on an EXPERIAN checking account!!!), the bank charged off the overdraft charges and reported my account. I was furious with the bank and still am. I will never do business with them again and we're filing with the banking commission about this.
