I had a similar experience with many other people who filed complaints. I went to freecreditreport.com in Feb 2006 to get my FREE credit report, which required credit card info but I thought that the credit check people need at least one card number to check your credit, so I entered my VISA number. I didn't enroll in any membership. I did get my credit report.

In March 2006, I was charged $12 by "CIC Triple Advantage" in California to my VISA. I googled it and found that the charge is associated with my "free" credit report. I went to the website which is disabled for existing customers but not disabled for people who want to get a "free" credit report! I thought this was the cost for the "free" credit report and let it go.

In April 2006, I was charged another $12 by "CIC Triple Advantage" in California to my VISA. Again, I went to the webpage freecreditreport.com which is still disable for previous "customers." I called the number and did what some of you suggested. Instead of hitting 1 to cancel membership, I hit 4 to talk to billing. I talked with a customer service rep who told me that I would be refunded $12 in 7 to 10 days and my "membership" that I didn't sign up for will also be canceled. I'm not holding my breath waiting for $12 but I'm hoping it happens. I did receive an email that my account was canceled.

I also filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau... there are 2600 filed complaints for this company in the last 3 years!!!! There are cases where money was refunded, but also cases which refunds were refused. This company operates under Experian, but the other 2 big credit check companies (TransUnion and Equifax) are not part of the BBB so they have no files (and therefore, no listed complaints).

I'm glad I check my VISA statements every month! And thank you all for posting your complaints.

Got 2 refunds! from CIC Triple Advantage

AUTHOR: Jennifer - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, May 09, 2006

I am surprised to report that I got 1 refund of $12.95 from the phone call to Triple Advantage asking for the cancellation and refund for my "free" credit report. I also filled a claim on the Better Business Bureau website and asked for a refund of $12.95 and I got that too.
