I submitted a short term disability claim in mid-August with Cigna after being off work 14 consecutive days with medical issues.  I was told that the claim would be assigned to a representative to begin the process. First of all, my claim was sent to the wrong office, which wasted about a week's time.  I had to call Cigna too find out what was the hold up and finally they explained that the claim was sent to the wrong place, so the claim was denied.  Therafter, I was able to file another claim with the correct office in Glendale, CA.  This claim was filed on 9/2/09. It took them a week to send my the forms to complete and then to get the documentation from my doctors. During this time I was contacting my Cigna rep to find out the status of my claim.  He never returned my calls.  I finally called my employer to let them know that Cigna was dragging their feet on processing and reviewing my claim. Then, finally on September 30th, I get a returned call (almost a month from the time the claim was submitted), just to be told that they still needed more information from my employer. 


I immediately called my employer back, and my employer stated they had sent the requested info to Cigna long before that.  Furthermore, I was told by Cigna that they were giving an approval and that it would take 7-10 days to get my claim processed.  Then after two more weeks, on October 5th, I tried, again, to reach my Cigna representative.  I called customer service to get it escalated to the supervisory level.  She did call be back the next day, to tell me they were still waiting on info from my doctors.  I called my doctor's office and they told me they sent my medical records three times from the date CIgna requested my records.  So, again, Cigna lied to me!!  Finally they reviewed my claim on October 6th.  To this day, I did not get a call back from the representative.  I am very angry and dissatisfied with the way Cigna handled my claim.  They do not care about the fact that I was off work since August with no income.  They do not care about the distress they have caused me by dragging their feet.  They do all this because they don't want to pay, and that is the TRUTH!!
