Like many, I am painfully waiting out my AT&T contract so I can get away from the wireless beast that is Cingular. For awhile, I thought that Cingular perks for customers meant perks for me since my company was swallowed and turned into a larger Cingular. Then I found out that I am qualified as a AT&T Legacy member, which dwindles down to "Hey, old AT&T customers, you get to use our towers, that's it (no rollover, etc.)!"

But unfortunately, I can't even do that. As of the past month or so (right during whole "raising the bar" white guy/asian guy promised service commercials) I have been getting zero reception in my house. To point the where I can't even know if I have voicemails.

So I tried to fix this with Cingular of course and was able to encounter their description of "friendly" customer service reps. The first person I spoke with was laughing with the people in her cubicle and made me repeat my question 3 times, only to not help me because I would need a new phone and since AT&T doesn't exist, I would have to get a Cingular phone...with a Cingular contract of course!!! I'm on a share plan, so I just can't make those decisions, plus I didn't like whole "want help sign a contract" spiel they gave me.

The problem didn't go away and in frustration I called Cingular again. The person was friendlier but that's when I get the line of because I am Legacy member and not subject to all the perks of a Cingular customer and that my best option is to search for an old AT&T cell phone to see if I get better service, but that's no promise. The only promise of service during this entire conversation with her was if I signed a new contract with Cingular. Then not only would I be able to get a new phone but the promise of service.

All in all, I feel slightly cheated by both AT&T and Cingular. I have no service, no chance of easily getting a new phone (if that's even the problem), and the only way I can get help from the company that was supposed to help me is if I sign a new contact. Cingular was sure to inform me I am the leftover refuse of a dead cell phone company and the only path to salvation at this time was through them or pay the cancellation fee and find a service that cares.
