E-MAIL FROM CIRCUIT CITY Consumer Affairs

Subject: Circuit City

Thank you for visiting Circuit City's website and sending a message about your JVC headphones. We welcome every opportunity to hear from a valued customer and evaluate our performance.

If you purchased your headphones two months ago as you claimed, then your purchase is beyond the return period, so we are unable to exchange or refund it. Circuit City will exchange most items if returned with the original box, packaging, all manuals and accessories within 30 days of purchase Since your purchase was beyond the return period, we were unable to exchange or refund it. However, I would like to apologize for any inconvenience this issue may have caused you.

Since your unit is in need of repair at this time, I would encourage you to contact the manufacturer directly. To get to our Manufacturer contact page, please follow these steps to navigate through our website.

I hope you can understand our position, as your continued patronage and support is important to us. Thanks again for visiting Circuitcity.com.

Sincerely,

Greetings,

I purchase JVC super Bass headphones HA V560 L atthis store
about two months ago. THOUSAND OAKS MAP Store # 3303 600 WEST HILLCREST DR THOUSAND OAKS, CA 91360 (805) 498-1864 Recently the ear piece made a loud pop which hurt my ear. Then it stopped working. I took them back to your store immediatley.First they would not exchange them because I did not have the original receipt then they check the computer.

They would not exchange them because they stopped carrying them.Whatever happened to "customer service is state of the art".I spoke with Larry and others at the store....they were not very helpful. Anyway, my ear hurts and I am really very angry.I could buy at less expensives stores the only reason I shop at Circuit City is for customer service...which appears just to be another lie wrapped up in a catchy jingle.Whoever is reading this do you have any morals? The reputation of circuit city is at stake here. Replace or refund my headphones. Thank
you.

#3 Consumer Suggestion

Do you think JVC cares? Circuit City does not either

AUTHOR: Joel - ()

POSTED: Thursday, October 17, 2002

I called JVC many times. I spoke to several people
and never got so much as a Return Material
authorization. One guy said he would call back
but never did.

Get real!! The fact is most electronic companies are not prepared to deal with consumers directly... the stores are supposed to do this.

Getting through on the phone to repair department
takes an act of god. If you do get someone on
the line and they have you send the item back in
it could take 6 months to repair...or sit in a
wharehouse for the rest of your life.

Circuit City as a large chain should use their leverage to deal with the manufacturer for you.

Believe me one small consumer means nothing to big electronics corporation...and they let you know it.

Anybody who runs a sucessful business knows you
must back what you sell...so I consider circuit
city a poorly run business.

Please shop elsewhere.

I would actually have to disagree with the Rip Off Reporter

Rebuttal:
I would actually have to disagree with the Rip Off Reporter. It is foolish to think that a store would even think about taking back a product after the alloted time (this case 30 days). After the alloted time it is now the manufacturer not the original sellers duty to fix the problem. You see the retailer sets that time because within the first 30 days if the product is dysfunctional then it will appear so before the time is up.

In the package of the JVC headphones, there should be a warranty card and probably information on what to do to get the headphones fixed. I am sure you will have to send in your earphones to be fixed for a few days, but I am sure you can be without them for a while. Why should be make the company (2 years, 2 months or any time after you purchase) have to deal
with this crap. You read the signs and the receipt that says they will return it after a certain time period and then after that you are on your own.

They were even kind enough to get you the information on the manufacturer to get the item fixed, plus I am certain that if they had the product in stock they would of exchange it for you.

Put yourself in their shoes for a while and see what happens. See how many yahoo's come in 6 months later and say "My earphones don't work."

You can only help people so much before you have to start teaching them to help themselves, so call the manufacturer like they suggested and get those things fixed.

CIRCUIT CITY ALMOST BLEW OUT MY EARDRUM..AND REFUSED TO REFUND $$$ (#4493)

They filed the following rebuttal to the above Rip-Off Report:

Their email: cc4502@aol.com

Their relationship to the company: Supporter

Rebuttal:

well it seems that you have had the headphones for more the 30 days. which is the return policy that is stated on your receipt and throughout the store. do you think circuit city can afford to take everything thing back no matter how old it is when a customer says so. i dont think so.

circuit city does not make the the product it just sells it. you need to take your complaint up with JVC. also if you would have bought the extended warranty you would not be in this situation!!

:::::EDITORS NOTE:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

We appreciate your REBUTTAL. BUT, Sorry, your wrong.

The reason why people go to a store like Circuit City is a sense of security and trust. They should back the product. I would expect that behavior from a small independent electronic shop. It's easier for Circuit City to return that item for the customer. This is called "customer service."

Circuit City has a reputation that is getting worse. 90 days, even 120 days. If the customer brings back the receipt, they should swap it for a new one.
