Citi bank made a mistake and entered my payment as 50 dollars instead of 150 dollars which was payment in full for the month. My cancelled check proves they received the 150 dollars but they only credited my account for 50 dollars. The raised my interest rate and started in with harassing calls. Even after they admitted their mistake and claimed they took corrective actions the harassment would not stop.

Their employees were rude, refused to identify themselves by name or let me speak to a supervisor. One told me that I had a record of perfect payments with them since 1993 and this was ruining my credit, that they had raised my interest rate and then made all sorts of threats about harming my financial standing. When it was pointed out again that this was their error, they simply said oh and then hung up. And then the calls started again. They will not stop calling, and they admit this is 100% their fault.

I would never use Citi Card again.

wait a second, if you have the canceled check with $150, have you sent that in via mail or fax? Misreading handwritten checks is fairly common because it can sometimes be a matter of the leading "1" being unnoticed because it is faded or the digit is too close to the line of the dollar amount field, or it could be truly the fault of our scanners not catching it.

But there is a system in place for correcting such errors, whatever the cause. If you can fax or mail a copy of the front and back of the check, our Payment Research Department will verify the amount on the check and credit both the payment and any fees caused by the incorrect amount. You can send the check info to the address on your statments or customer service agents can provide the specific address for payment research for that card. Sorry if you got a bad one, but I'd say call back in.

You mention collections calls and ruining your credit, there would have been at least one statement that went out with the erroneous payment before collection calls start and its not till another statement cycle after that until a negative credit report. Did you catch the problem on the first statment?
