General Synopsis:

While visiting a family member hospitalized at Civista Hospital on Sunday November 22, 2004 the family of the African American patient was escorted out of the building by security after being told to "Shut Up" by the White roommate of the family member. The husband of the rude patient was apologetic for his wife's comments however she insisted we "shut up"

After explaining to the rude patient that we were not being disrectful nor carrying on in a loud nature, she removed herself from the room and went to the nurses station. Within 5 minutes 2 security officers came in with plastic gloves on and told us we had to leave. A nurse came in shortly as we disputed the request to say that there was a threat made to the other patient. As the kids cried not to leave their mother the security insisted we must leave now! My parents had driven 2 hours to visit their daughter and was asked to leave after being there for 45 minutes. Security escorted us to the elevator, while boarding the elevator the security officers remove their gloves as if we were contagious.

Once arriving at home I contacted my sister to see how she was doing. She informed me that the head nurse did visit with her after we left and was to supply her with a grievance package to file with the hospital administrators. The head nurse never returned. My sister was also informed that a nurse was supposed to come to the room to evaluate the situation prior to security being called. The head nurse also wanted my sister to call us immediately for us to return. Once the nurse left she never returned, no package was ever given and security has been more visable on the 2nd floor North after this incident.

On Monday November 22, 2004 my sister was released from the hospital, upon my arrival to pick her up, security was immediately on the floor. When entering the elevator with my sister and nurse the security officer stood and watched to ensure our departure.

Since my sister's arrival at the hospital on Thursday November 18, 2004 a security officer was never spotted on the 2nd floor.

I too have seen trouble there and filed a similar report

Personally I think the staff, the environment and the professionalism in this place is horrid.
You can try to defend it all you want but facts are facts. Too many people have all experienced horrible situations when dealing with this hospital and I am amazed that there aren't more suits against them.

I know for a fact the horror stories of this Hospital are true.

I had little choice but to take my son there tonight. We waited for over three hours and during that time, not only were we were never seen but we had to sit there and watched while this poor man writher in pain, screaming for help, sometimes falling to the floor.

Not one person helped him. When we tried to locate someone that could help, we were told he was probably just on drugs and walked away. The receptionist looked like she should be working at a truck stop diner as she sat on the phone speaking loudly on a personal call and laughing very high pitch almost to the point of cackling.

If it were not for several people going to the quality management care office that poor man would have laid on the floor as their medical personnel walked by.

It simply amazes me that some people (especially those that claim to work in the field) think it is perfectly acceptable behavior for this hospital and that theses events are just something of the norm. Or better yet, I have actually read some pathetic comments back from people in their efforts to defend the hospital in saying that these poor, sick people have a choice to go somewhere else or that it is dependant on their education to know if they have received bad medical treatment or not????

This is not acceptable by any means; you can try to condone such horrible and unprofessional conduct all you want. It is apparent why you do. As far as being underpaid, the medical staff knew going into this career, what they are going to make. THEY have a choice if they want to work there or not. MANY people are considered underpaid, but that should never reflect in their work, especially in the medical field.

If they are under staffed HIRE more, if the staff they have are inadequate than educate them or hire better ones. It is not the patient's fault they are understaffed or under paid. When coming to the ER they expect to be able to trust the staff with their lives. They expect to be treated with professionalism and respect and most of all they trust these so called health professional to treat them and help get their health back on track.

I just cannot comprehend the horrors I witnessed today in that ER room and I feel for all the families and their loved ones who had to stay and endure this pathetic excuse for medical care.

I do not care if you want to rebuttal trying to make justifications for this inexcusable behavior and treatment by CIVISTA. I know better as do most everyone else and it is apparent as to why you feel the need to cover it up.
