ClearCredit uses a Mortage company to obtain your credit report. This is listed as a hard inquiry on your report. If you are trying to clean up your credit, this can hurt it.

ClearCredit will dispute everything on your credit report without your consent. If you have 100 items on your report they will dispute all of them. They will charge you $7.95 per item. They claim that they dispute only what you tell them to but you never get a chance to tell them what you want disputed. They list everything as negative even the positive items in your credit report.

They also claim that they will never charge you more than 39.95 per monthly billing cycle. I was charged 39.95 THREE TIMES in the same month. They also claim results in as soon as 45 days. They charged me close to $200 dollars over a three month period with no results. I sent them numerous e-mails for updates. I asked for a refund but my e-mails were never responded to.

Steer clear of this company. You will lose money and your credit will be worse. You can dispute your own items for free (except the cost of the credit report) with the Major Credit Bureaus and receive a response and update credit report in thirty days.

Does anyone know if there is a class action lawsuit against this company? If there isn't there should be one. I would like to get my money back if possible and I know many consumers have been ripped off by this company. They should be out of business. Any information would be appreciated.

ClearCredit the worst rip-off ever

As of 1/20/2004. My Clear Credit account has been closed but I've only received a refund in the amount of 39.95 for the almost $200.00 worth of charges. This company needs to be sued and put out of business.

True Info for those interested

A credit report obtained by a Mortgage Co does not necessarily hurt your credit. You are allowed a total of 3 inquiries in a 90 day period before it even affects your scores, and even then, depending on the amount of inquiries, it is not that much. Inquiries remain on your reports for a total of 2 years, but only the inquiries obtained in a 90 day period are actually disclosed to creditors.

Yes people can dispute inacurate and erroneous entries themselves with the credit bureaus who have 30 days to respond, even if it is with a letter stating that they are investigating the entries you are disputing. This allots them more time and can take up to a total of 90 days.

Not all credit disputing companies are alike. There are some good ones out there. How do I know? As a loan officer for a Mortgage brokerage I do credit disputing and debt negotiations for my clients as they either lack the time, knowledge and perserverance to undertake this task, or just plain don't want to. I draft the dispute letters, my clients proof them and sign them and they are sent to the entity necessary. My clients receive their results at their homes and must contact me when they get them. I wait for 90 days after all the results are in to pull a new credit report to ensure that all the information that has been disputed has been updated as stated in the results recieved and to monitor Fico score improvement. The only time a positive account is disputed is if my client tells me that this is definitely NOT their account and want it removed.

A person should very much steer clear of obtaining their reports from online as with past clients I have compared these reports to the ones the bureaus have to offer as well as those that we use in our Mortgage company and the online reports have so many discrepancies it is funny.

If you have been ripped off by a credit repair/disputing company you should contact the credit bureaus, Equifax, Trans Union and Experian, Consumer Affairs in your state and the state where the company is located, and the Dept. of Business and Industry. If anyone needs these addresses or suggestions, please feel free to respond to this thread or to the moderators here and they can contact me.
