My daugther,a college student, received a call from a lady that was very difficult to understand a few days ago. This lady happened to be a telemarketer from Clout Visa. My daughter received a Clout Visa Card in the mail today and immediately called me. She told me about the phone call a few days ago and thought this company was sending her information only on college grants. The lady was very interested in my daughter 's field of study, hobbies etc, nothing to do with information in completing a credit card application. My daughter thought this was someone calling from the college. Unfortunately, alittle to late and after much persistance from the telemarketer, my daughter gave out her Social Security Number, this telemarketer would not take NO for an answer.

My daughter become more suspicious when this person started asking for her parents (myself) address and phone number, at which point she knew something was not right. She told the telemarketer that she did not want to commmit to anything by phone and that she could send her information only. The lady told her she was not commiting to anything, LIAR. I immediately told her the call Clout and get the account closed and do not activate the card.

This appears to be a high pressured, unprofessional sales tactic to get college students to become one of their high paying customers. SAD!!!!

It happens become educated,

AUTHOR: Andrea - (U.S.A.)

I understand that it is frustrating. I know first hand what the telemarketing companies tell these young adults to get their information. I am appalled at the things that they do and even more so that I am paid to represent this company in a customer service capacity. And with my years of experience, I can tell you that no matter how much it upsets you, how ever many complaints are lodged with the BBB, sadly I fear nothing will change.

My advice to all parents and students who come across this is become educated, get caller ID and don't talk to them. That goes for all telemarketers. At some point we all must take responsibility for the choices that we make. I know that your child felt that they were miss lead and it is possible they were. But they still willing gave the information to a person whom they did not know over the phone. As I stated before, you must educate them to avoid these things in the future.
