I received a letter from Coast on 3/1/13 telling me I owed them $280 for services on my daughter back in 2011.

Their reason: "You ins company had overpaid for treatment done in 2011 which gave your account a credit. For all appointments there after your co payments have been coming out of that credit. Your ins company has at this time been refunded the overpayment & at this time the balance is your responsibility."

My daughter is on the states healthy kids program and, as they (the state) and Coast has told me when we used them... All treatment must be pre authorized by her insurance before they perform work.

Coast obviously overbilled the insurance company and instead of returning the money to the insurance company, kept me coming back because my "daughter had a credit". Now that they have been caught and had to return the money, they are trying to rip me off because they were caught ripping off the insurance company.

Watch your wallets! If what they are doing isn't criminal, it should be.

I plan to call the department of health, the insurance company and file a complaint with the Fl. Dept of Financial Services and the State's Attorney office just in case it is criminal.

Do you work for them Batman

If you read other reports on this site and other sites in addition to checking them out on the BBB (F Rated) and you will see it isn't just me that has had this problem with them.

You must be an employee defending them not knowing all the facts or having been told what I was when I was in their office.

They are not straight forward and the lesson leaned is that I should check peoples reputations online better before just going to them. Had I had read others reviews, we would not have gone to them to start with...

As far as your fear of my credit... I can tell you I have an extremely good credit score and the effect of a few points against it will be far less then the impact I will have on them when I deal with thousands of employees in my position and recommend they do not use Coast Dental...

There's obviously no arguing with crazy. You'll never understand this situation and always feel ripped-off because you simply don't want to listen.

The bottom line is, you owe the money so you can either pay the balance you owe like a normal responsible person or you can continue to be a deadbeat scumbag and complain and try and weasel out of it.

The choice is yours... but I think we both know which way you'll be going, amiright? Hope karma lets this hit your credit and ruin bigger plans you try for in your future, like a home, auto, or college loan!

Let them sue. They mislead me.

There is no excuse and if they want to sue me, have at it. The mislead me and I would not have used the services had it not been "a credit" to my account.

They need to provide pricing up front and not provide services and then bill you after the fact. It is no different than getting work done to your car and then they charge you after the fact because they screwed up. Luckly we have consumer protection against it when we go to a garage.

If they were overpaid, they should have returned the money and not mislead me that I have a credit. They knew the money was not their money yet lead me to believe I had a credit. When services are provided and a patient is paying for a service that was approved by insurance you don't just say "it is taken care of" when the patient pays and, that is just what they did.

The letter clearly indicates the credit was being used toward your co-payments and the money owed isn't for the 2011 service, but all the co-payments you didn't pay since then because of the false credit on your account.

I'd assume your insurance company approved all work since 2011 just like normal and paid their normal portions just as expected.

You have to try and understand that as much as it stinks, this amount due is something you would have owed anyway. You would've just paid it in smaller increments over the last 2 years, like $20 here and $50 there, depending on the work performed and it would've most likely happened the same way at almost any dentist. You were able to skip out on $280 worth of smaller co-payments because of the credit.

At the end of the day, you can spend all the time you want calling and complaining to whoever will listen, but it looks like the money is truly owed and you'd be better off paying the bill and putting the matter to rest as quickly as possible.

Also keep in mind that just because it stinks having to pay it all now or just because you're having trouble wrapping your mind around how the billing works, it doesn't mean you're getting ripped-off and certainly doesn't mean anything criminal is going on.

You get too loud with those crazy false accusations and you push them hard enough with your crackpot theories and they just might have grounds to turn around and sue you for damages. It's always a good idea to get your fact straight before you go and cry "wolf" and your initial post makes it clear that there's much you don't understand about medical billing practices.
