Whatever, Jamie (Papa Maroon)

"Sorry I don't reply to more of your rants Rio.  They are just so full of BS that it isn't worth my time.  I like to argue facts and opinions.  You just spill slander and name calling in your post.  But bottom line is I win!"

What an idiot. That above line was posted MONTHS ago. By YOU. Why is it you still keep responding? I must be 'worth your time' after all, Jamie.

And let us all forget your empty threats of some kind of legal action, Jamie. You haven't got a legal leg to stand on, and you know it. You work in a slimey business, make no money, and there isn't a lawyer in the world who would DARE put his hands on you, Jamie.

You think Larry Hahn would ever come to your aid? You think Chris Westphal would, Jamie? When you stop dropping bottles, no one gives a big black s**t who you are, Jamie.

Maybe it's time to pull all the metal out of your face, Jamie. Maybe it's time to get right with God and show the world who you really can be, Jamie.

Ah, but that probably won't happen, will it, Jamie?

What a total clown Jamie is.

Scentura goin' down, baby.

Scentura Office Owner Shuns Someone Giving Good Professional Advise

AUTHOR: Lionel Cosgrove - (USA)

I've said it before and I'll say it again. You're a coward Papa Perfume!

The former trainee actually gave you some good advise and you went off on a rant of personal attacks against this person. You're really only making yourself and your joke of a company look worse. We're all happy you're so rich and "Live a kush lifestyle" but that doesn't make you better then any of us and it certainly doesn't make your company look professional nor reputable.

By the way Rio and the former trainee are right. You challenge people to post their personal information yet are too much of a coward to post yours. There are steps you can take to repair a company's reputation and most companies take advise from consumers, former employees and customers as well as take steps to repair their image. Trust me I know I've worked for and represented several companies throughout my career; Toyota, Comcast, Primerica, Manpower and some smaller lesser known companies. I live a good lifestyle as well. So your arguments about money and how many bottles you sold last week are meaningless.

Yet you and other greedy, brainwashed members of the Scentura cult shun any advise from any outsiders. You not only shun good advise you drag your company's reputation down even further with your unconvincing and extremely unprofessional rebuttals.

Dear STL internet terrorist............

AUTHOR: papa perfume - (United States of America)

That will be my name for you new guy.  STL internet terrorist.  I'll now go through your BS rant and then you can hide under your bed and cry like the rest of the blow-outs.

What's funny is you almost argue your own points.  You are correct we aren't much different then any other business that you can work your way up from the bottom up.  But we really aren't interested in "sales people"  The reason for that is because they have a different motive then the people we are looking to fill a office position.  Now in our business you have to go through a training program where you learn all aspects of the business from sales, training and leadership, to admin and management duties.  If someone was focused in the training almost anyone could complete training in about 60 days.  But we are looking for people that are looking for advancement, go getters, over achievers, people just looking for more.  Sales is what we do but we look for the managers.

Next any person that has ever sat through any interview anywhere at any office was told about a Learning Program thats about 90 days and we are very explicit that we are a wholesale fragrance company.  What do you think a wholesale fragrance company does?  Sell fragrances!!!  And anyone who does their interview correctly covers sales at lest twice during the interview.  And if you only make $35,000 you are doing s**t!!  My office did over 1000 transactions last week.  Do the math there.  So the position is really better then what was offered to me.  I was told I'd make $35-$40 thousand a year and its been much more then that for me.  And who wouldn't sacrifice 3 months for a income like that if they are unemployed.  And the percentage of people that quit jobs here if very low.  And no one ever quits a $40,000 a year job to come in here ever!!

Sales done in the field are all legit.  The only way its not is if the property is posted.  And it has to be the property not the business.  Business to business sales there are no special lic you need in %95 of all cities large or small.  Now door to door residential that's different.  But we don't do door to door.

And just so you know Cash is still king.  Go to any local gas station and ask more then %50 of all transactions are still done in cash.  I almost never have less the $100 cash on me just in case I want something here and now.

You're fifth comment is %100 BS.

Sixth comment just shows how uneducated you are about successful people.  Talk to any business owner or any millionaire and ask if they were only working 35-40 hours  a week while they were climbing the ladder.  This is a quote that I lived by my first 2 years in this business....  " Anyone can be successful working half a day 6 days a week you just have to choose which half the first 12 hours or the last 12 hours"  And it's worked out well for me.

And every orientation I've ever done I went into exact specifics on what the need to do step by step to complete training.  And any other successful manager does the same thing.

Next you can say what you want about the product, but go to macy's and buy a bottle of cool water and compare it to ours.  Ours is bigger better and about 1/2 to a 1/4 of the price.  Why do you think we've been around for 36 years with the same product?  Because it's the best out there.

I never tell any trainee to shun their family but no one gets it if they aren't here.  But it's really easy to shut them up.  Get results.  And when you bring home a $1,000 and say this is ours they usually shut up.  When I went through training my mom and girlfriend didn't get it.  But I make more money then my mom does today, almost 3 times more.  And my girlfriend I just traded her in for a better one.  My friends didn't support me then, but when we go out now I always have the tab because I make 2-3 times what any of them make.  And then don't complain anymore.  Just produce and you win.

So now onto you.  How long did you make it STL internet terrorist.  I'd bet less the three full weeks.  And I'd even say probably less then 3 full days.  But that's another story.  But if you want to attack someone personally why don't you post your real name, address, and phone number like you did to these offices and see what happens then.  You weak a*s baby back b***h!!

But as always I wish you good luck and best wishes!!

#6 UPDATE EX-employee responds

If upset by these complaints, make the effort to repair your reputation

AUTHOR: Former Five Star Trainee - (United States of America)

I fear that Papa Perfume and other supporters of this business are missing the point of most of these complaints.  While a Scentura distributor might be a legal business, most if not all resort to using deceptive techniques to lure in applicants.  As we all know, those who apply, do so under the impression that, if hired, they will be offered an office position that pays $30,000-40,000 in the first year.

If you'd like to avoid complaints like this from folks who felt duped when they showed up for an interview, try altering your ads.  Be up front about it and post a listing for a sales agent, pay based on commission, expect $200-500 per week, possibility to advance to office position after 3 months.  A retail chain store does not post an ad for a director of store operations position, when the actual opening is for an entry level sales associate.  Although, that sales associate may be able to work their way up to a shift leader, and then to an assistant manager, and then to a general manager, and then to district manager, and then to a regional manager, etc. if they're just prepared to put forth the hard work and realize that it will take time.

Secondly, be certain that each applicant is completely aware of just what the job entails before they leave their first or second interview...not after you've offered them the position, which they think is a salaried office manager making $35,000 a year, if that's what you're advertising it as.  Many applicants, believing they are about to start a $35,000 position, quit their other job(s) during the interim  before they begin training with the Scentura distributer.  It's not until they've left their previous employer and begun training, that they come to realize they will be selling perfume for the next 3 months, and the only income they will receive is directly related to the number of bottles they are able to sell each week.

Third, inform applicants that while your office does hold all appropriate business licenses and permits, these do not cover them in the field.  Instruct them to look into their local laws regarding soliciting, and seek the appropriate privilege sales tax license, mobile vendor's license, etc.  Be sure to express to them that until they have obtained these documents, any sales they perform in the field will be done so illegally, and your office will not be held liable if they run into legal trouble.

Fourth, make it understood that applicants will quite often have to head into areas of town and businesses that they may not be comfortable with, in an effort to make sales.  This is the product of living in the 21st century.  In today's day and age, many people no longer carry cash, as there is no need to.  Typically, daily purchases are made using credit or debit cards.  However, those who live in lower income neighborhoods along with strippers generally still carry cash.

Fifth, also make it known that all applicants are responsible for securing their own transportation for use in day-to-day sales, as well as when heading out of town on satellites.  Furthermore, be sure they understand that hotel accommodations on satellite outings, will be subsidized by their sales and not otherwise covered by the office.

Sixth, be certain that applicants realize that in an effort to meet some very steep sales goals, most trainees must work long hours.  Upon entering training, they will generally not be working the typical weekly full-time schedule of 35-40 hours.  As trainees, they may be called upon to work 80 hours or more in any given week.

Seventh, let applicants know just what they'll need to accomplish during this training period in order to be able to open their own office.  If that means they must sell X number of total bottles, train/recruit X number of new trainees, etc. make that known.  This will allow them to track their progress, and set an identifiable goal for when they should be able to move into a new office.  If a trainee is not on track to gain their own office within 3 months, they'll know why, and what is expected of them to do so.  This will also help prevent office managers from stringing along good, office-ready trainees, because they realize that their direct sales in the field are worth more to them than any kickbacks they'd receive, should they promote them to their own office.

Each of the previous points I've outlined, should be expressed to the applicant before they've been offered the position.  The following list applies to any and all applicants who agreed to the previous stipulations, and would like to accept a position as an independent contractor with your company and move on to training.

First, do not have trainees memorize a sales pitch which includes a line such as "I work for a wholesale fragrance company, and we carry all of the top designer fragrances which you would normally purchase in department stores for $80-150 a bottle.  I can offer these to you today for only $25."  After all, these are not the same designer fragrances, which you're selling in generic bottles.  It's printed right on the back of each box in all caps.  "THIS EXCLUSIVE FORMULA IS SCENTURA CREATIONS' RENDITION OF A FAMOUS DESIGNER FRAGRANCE..."

Second, if conducting a sales contest, make it known that while there may be a cash prize for the trainee who sells the most bottles of perfume, this cash prize being paid out is contingent upon the group selling a grand total of X number of bottles.

Third, do not attempt to convince your new trainees not to listen to their friends and family who have concerns about this business.   Their loved ones are those who truly care about them and want to see them succeed.  A reputable, honest business should be able to effectively put these concerns to rest, and not have to avoid these questions altogether.  Keep in mind, you're depending on these friends and family members to fulfill their initial sales.  Furthermore, these same family members may be called upon for loans during this training period, in the event that week-to-week commissions on fragrance sales are not adequate to cover the trainee's monthly bills.

Additional note:  If your particular distribution office is not registered with the Better Business Bureau, do not post signs in your office which would imply otherwise.

Fair enough?

Interesting you need to keep reinterating about your money, house, car, and boo. First thing they taught yaz in good ole' Craptura? Too bad it's all a lie.

Not afriad to show my face, son. How about you?

Provide just a bit of evidence on your own side. Let's see your car, your condo, your boo. How about the name of your very successful and oh, so Christian based business? And show your face, or are you afraid? What does a solid Christian with a lucrative ethical business have to be afraid of? Little old ugly me, with no hope for salvation, maybe?

Whole bunch of people following this thread, Papa Maroon. Larry Hahn might even be reading it. Without any 'evidence', your arguements don't mean much, son. You'll just lose more credibility without it.

Not that you started out with much. Still 'praying' for me, Papa? Lol.

Not praying for you. No blessings. Hope you are out business soon.

d**n yous a ugly b***h

AUTHOR: papa perfume - (United States of America)

Alright buddy I can post crap too.

First the facts:  I am a Christian.  I do live in a condo.  I never said she is my wife, she is my boo!  She is 5'8" 125 blonde and beautiful!  And MY daughter probably has more in her savings account at 7 then you've ever saved!!

Now on to you.  Just take a look at your pic man.  You're 48 playing on your PC like you're 17.  I think I saw you on that show " How to catch a predator"  The one about child molesters.  Yeah I'm pretty sure that was you.  You post and post and I'm not sure you could even put together a proper sentence.  Did you graduate the 7th grade?

And then you reply to these threads like a banshee.  I believe it's the only light of joy you have in you're petty life.  You're original post is a complaint about Chris and being in his office.  Well why are you 48 and still looking for a job.  I bet your a product of the economy right.  Nope just some old "jack of all trades" that's never done anything with his life.  Man by the time I'm 48 if I just keep going at the pay increases I've received over the last 6 years I'll retire when I'm 47 with a little over 3 million in IRA, CD, and other investments.

And I'm just gonna hope and pray that you haven't reproduced.  That's if any woman would ever let you come close to touching her.  I've got 3 super hot staff girls in my office and it was unanimous that you're hideous!  And at 48 your "equipment" probably doesn't work the way it used to.  And being unemployed you can't afford viagra.

And I'm sure it's been a long time since you were right with God.  But good thing god still loves you.  He doesn't discriminate that you're old, ugly, out of shape, and otherwise useless.  When is the last time you went to church?

Fact is that our business is the best thing out there.  It's better now then I've ever seen it.  My office did over 800 transactions in a 3 day period last week.  And that includes about 50 bottles friends and family.  That's 750 in the field.  You know how much money we make per bottle do the math buddy.  That's more money in three days them most people make in three weeks.  So say what you want some will some won't so what.  Owners vs Blow-outs.  We WIN!!

So now that you know who you are anytime you want to argue facts and opinions I'll be more then happy.

Good luck and best wishes

AUTHOR: Durrrrrrr - (U.S.A.)

I don't get it.  Some of you always say you're being lied to.  I wasn't lied to.  Everything that they told me happened.  I have an office now.  I'm getting it going.  Recruiting is great.  I have to get better at training my people.  But I wasn't lied to.  I sold fragrances business to business.  I learned the business.  And I opened.  I was told I would have to learn and sell perfume to be given an office.  All the offices around me say the same thing.  Maybe it's just some of the INDEPENDENT offices aren't doing the right thing.  We have about 60 offices in the US.  I only see 3 or 4 offices being consistently reported.  So there has to be about 56 offices doing things the right way.  I don't know how they do things but my promoting owners always told me to be straightforward.  Seems to work for me.  My people know what they're getting into.  If they don't want to do it, no hard feelings.  People who have hard feelings towards others because they don't want to be part of our organization is just dumb and insecure.  I couldn't care less if they don't want to do it.  Plenty of people out there will take an opportunity like this one.  Some people just are shy and too insecure to approach people directly.  Then comes the negative exaggerators of this forum, "Well I don't want to sell perfume at walmart, parking lot, blah blah blah".  My response is: So don't. No one is telling you have to.  Some people do because they rather do it that or they're just not that bright.  I was taught to walk into a business and speak to the people in the businesses to get as many sales as possible in one shot.  Seems to be much more effective for me.  So that's bad now?   I guess you all better call xerox, payroll svcs, every telephone company out there, comcast, the body shop, insurance salesmen that they better stop.

The difference here is we give you a business when you show that you can teach others sales(don't have to be superstar, just a good trainer), lead and motivate groups of people, public speaking, and finally the paperwork and paying the bills, cost of goods(after they are sold because your given a supply line w/o a credit check).  Then your promoting owner well put you in an office.

As far as the BBB thing.  Unless a business pays $500 membership fee, they won't be in the BBB as a BBB accredited business.  But they will show up if they legitimately had complaints with proof of wrong doing.  Otherwise the BBB won't bother.  I've been called by the BBB once to join because I was in good standing.  So unless you see on the BBB site or whatever that they are in bad standing it means they haven't had complaints reported to the BBB that the BBB had any reason to seek a resolution.

OH yeah and LMAO at the FFAAR comment.  No offense sir, but you really are misinformed if you think we owners depend on FFAAR.  Most people don't even try that hard for a sales contest.  Maybe we're not that good at it but my partner only does about 50 bottles on average on FFAAR.  But my office does 400/wk.  The 350 is done purely in the field.

BOTTOM LINE TO FIRST POST:  My answer to you is it really depends what was told to your husband.  Essentially what he should be told is what I just described obviously with more detail.  If anyone is guaranteeing you success that's just ridiculous.  Success, just like anything else, is up to you.  We're just giving you a business and a proven plan to achieve it.

I'm done posting on this forum.  I'll wait until the Internet is more regulated.  This is really a joke.  You all realize that you people are reading a FORUM which means anyone can say anything they want w/o any proof.  Then come the links.  THE APPEALS COURT IS SO LOW LEVEL!  Did you all hear how FED EX was sued by workers in NY state and CA for bonuses?  FED EX won in NY but lost in CA.  So even courts aren't completely in agreement.  The day the SUPREME COURT says Scentura is a pyramid then you have some proof.  Until then I'm not listening to some appellate court that had a judge that could easily have been biased.

Papa perfume shut the hell up, your company is about nothing but lies

AUTHOR: MellyGeM - (USA)

I really have to say I don't know what kind of crap they're spoon feeding you to be walking around with this holyer than thou attitude. First off if scentura creations was so big you wouldn't be selling IMITATION perfume you'd be selling the the real stuff. You don't see L'obervecense or watever its called in Macys, JCPenny, or Sears.

They sell the real CK, Paris Hilton or watever have you. and yes I'm proud to pay 40-50 dollars for it because it's the real thing, its authentic. I'm an ex-employee and it really gets to me that just because you can't fool smart people into becoming your GUMPS b/c thats all we really are to you anyway that you feel that you have the right to belittle them.

By refering to them as "weak, wps, blow-outs". Is there not saying known as "to each his own?" If you're a prostitue sellin yourself is what you do, if you're a stripper thats what you do, you sell drugs thats what you do. In scentura's case you lie to people about selling perfume thats what you do. Nobody's knocking you, people have a problem with you lying to them thats all, if I ask you is this position is commission based dont sit there and tell me no not at all when you know that it is.

I'm from NYC and honestly I have to hold in a laugh everytime I see these people on the street BEGGING for money as countless people walk on by. The same people who were telling me good luck on my job search and to have fun flipping burgers, ringing up groceries etc etc.

I'm like sh*t, well while I'm flipping burgers IM GETTING PAID FOR IT no matter how many people buy #2's. IM wARM while im flipping my burgers while you're outside freezing to death trying to earn a buck. When im done scanning groceries at night I get into my CAR and drive off while you're standing in the parking lot trying to earn a buck.

When I go to the mall I go to blow some bucks on some nice stuff in the AC/heat while you're standing outside freezing/dying from heat trying to earn a buck. Don't deny it because I've seen you with my own two eyes I've seen a so called "executive owner" stadning outside of my local mall about 6 nights a week if he was making money like that he wouldnt have to be there so often.

While I'm hopping on the train to go to work you're the ones standing on the train platform trying to make a buck. My point is you're nothing but loud mouth beggers and fronters "faking it till you make it" isnt that your motto? Like I said nobody's knocking you but don't sit there and knock anybody else for not buying into your nonsense.

Honestly if you are making so much money you guys would be able to afford DECENT offices, with SIGNS in the front of your place of business. Just a few pointers to you so called big time business men.

Hope this post looks familiar jack a$$.

Taking Action

AUTHOR: Lionel Cosgrove - (USA)

Rio, do you mean to say that Papa Perfume is in fact Chris Westphal? Some of the worst stories I've read on this site are about him.

Maybe some of the posters will help us gang up on Papa Buffoon every time he spams his brainwashed Scentura talking points.

But first allow me to present a whole new talking point:

The life-blood of these offices is the classified ads. If their classifieds are no longer allowed in the newspapers the distributor will not be able to place their ads and the pyramid will collapse. They will be forced to close down shop and move to an area where the local papers have yet to catch on. The first thing you have to do is write a letter or email to the newspaper classifieds as well as websites where these ads are placed. Be sure to keep it professional. If you live in a large metropolitan area this could take a lot of work so be patient and stick with it. Read other newspapers classifieds and search other job sites to find more of these ads and send letters/emails to them.

Before sending the letter it is important to include;

If the letter doesnt work, send another more stern letter. Then send letters to other news sources warning them of the misleading ads. This way they wont be able to advertise elsewhere as a back up plan.

Send multiple letters or emails if you have to.

You can find some sample letters in the thread below. They were posted by JD back in 2005. Just know the letters are a bit dated so be sure to make them as professional and up-to-date as possible. There are tons of websites that can give advice on writing good professional letters.

For testimonials from former employees and owners look in this thread under the poster Noah from Chicago.

Other measures include:

  • Starting petitions

  • Writing your local politicians

    • State Representatives

    • City Councilmen/women

    • Aldermen/women

  • Contacting news agencies

Im open to any ideas!

I should know I didn't make it through the training but I had the smarts to know that something wasn't right. Whats so funny is that our "regional manager" is a security guard from some train station, and these people have the nerve to treat us like we're missing out on something grand when we stop showing up.

I'm from NYC and  a big red flag to me was when I went to pick up my husband from work and I saw 2 females I recognized from the "training center" and i spoke to one of them briefly about some paperwork I was supposed to hand in. My husband saw me talking to them and he asked me how I knew them and I said well they work at the place where I'm receiving my training. He stopped and stared at me and he goes" well those two are always out here begging people to buy perfume from them!"

That REALLYYYY opened my eyes, if you want to read about my personal experience with these clowns just read my post i believe its right above yours.

An iffy employee

AUTHOR: Sephness - (United States of America)

Your husband may be in training with me because I have just started training this week and I am also iffy about this company. I was excited about this opportunity and it seemed real fun until this morning when my parents contacted me and notified me of seeing multiple reports of it being a scam. This would normally big a BIG "RED FLAG" to me but the only thing keeping me in the "iffy" department is that all the reports I see of people claiming this company is a scam are from people that have quit the training during the first or second week. I would like to get somebody on here that can shed some light on this situation because I really want to know if going through the full training program (6-8 weeks) is really worth it? Do we really get our own office? And most importantly do we really make a lot of money having the office?

P.S. I am actually contemplating on finishing the training program myself because Mira Mesa is far for me to travel because I live in Point Loma and after reading so many reports of them changing their name so many times?
