Lisa A. Colby - Colby & Coleman Totally inept and unethical attorney, in MY case, at least! ripoff Metairie Louisiana

This woman was handling my divorce case, and seemed to be in it just to collect her fees from me, and, being as it was not a contingency case, she got her money, regardless.

She never argued my case, she went for repeated continuances, she filibustered. Hustled me into court, and back out again. She had lots of documents from me, including proof of child abuse committed by my ex, that could have been argued, but yet Ms. Colby never said a word. She always blamed "the judge's mood" for her lack of representation. My ex's attorney walked all over her.

My ex had a great attorney. My attorney, not once, acted in my best interest, nor did she have the balls to stand up to my ex's attorney.

She screwed my case up so badly, no other attorney would touch it! At the last hearing, I was representing myself. The damage had been done.

Bottom line (and there's so much more I could detail. I had eleven ethical complaints against Ms. Colby!)

I lost custody of my children. She advised me not to fight it, because it would traumatize my children. What really traumatized them was that I'd taken this advice. I only thank God that my kids and I have maintained a loving relationship, and they know they were not "abandoned".

I lost our home of 13 years, the only home my children had ever known.
For a 13 year marraige, an ex who makes $50K a year, and a 200K home, my final award was $1,300.00. Even the hearing officer couldn't believe Ms. Colby "let this happen". MY GOD! I should have fired her way before I did. I trusted her! I honestly thought she was acting in my best interest!

I thought that just because she was a law school grad, she knew what she was doing. I didn't realize that she probably graduated at the *bottom* of her class.

I suppose I'm lucky that I fired her when I did, or I wouldn't have even gotten the $1300.00!

I've filed a complaint with the Louisiana ethics board, which will probably take forever to investigate. I do know that after initial contact with the ethics board, she told the investigator that I had "mental problems". So, now she thinks she's a doctor, too? GRRRR!

I have never been diagnosed with mental problems. I probably have them now, though!

I have enough evidence of a serious malpractice case against her, which, with a savvy enough lawyer, would mean big money. The statute of limitations is running out, though, and no lawyer around here will take the case, because the attorneys in and around this city all seem to know each other.

Please, please, check out your attorney thoroughly! Your life is in their hands!
