I cancelled my AT&T service a year ago. The woman from AT&T told me I had a few days til my contract was up and that she would put a note in computer to cancel it then. Things went fine and she did, and I believe I paid the last phone bill because I never received another one.
It is now a year later and a few days ago I received mail from Pallisades saying I owed AT&T 70 some dollars. If I owed this why had I not received anything from AT&T. I saw all the reports on the rip off and have only contacted PAllisades once and left message. I am afraid they will ruin my credit for a phantom 70 dollar bill. I do not know what to do to prevent this from happening. I heard I should not call anyone. Can someone tell me what to do?

Call ATT & Check you Credit Bureau

AUTHOR: Tom - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, May 25, 2005

Hi:

This is what you do. Call the original creditor and inquire is to what and why you owe. Get a 3 bureau report from Equifax , Experian and Trans union to see if it is affecting your credit.

Call the agency and ask for their mailing address. Send them a certified letter -demanding they prove you owe the debt. Under federal law they must send you documentation that you owe it within 30 days or cease collection efforts.

If you dont owe the debt, dispute it with all 3 major credit bureaus. They will do an investigation and the agency or creditor must again prove you owe it or remove it.
