HhThis goes back to 1985 and evertime I see alex kerbeck on that colonial penn commercial it reminds me of what that company did to my father. We worked at the same company and when colonials agent came out and talked to us we signed up for the accident and my dad signed up for life insurance. We were told no physical required and you could not be denied. My dad took out 10,000 dollar life ins. policy and premiums taken out of his pay because of group plan. My dad passed away and I notified colonial immediately and they sent me 1,000 dollars right away to help with some owf the expenses. After funeral I filled out paper work for my dads policy. I received letter from colonial telling me the policy had been denied because the application was not filled out properly and they were sending paid premiums back with the letter. I called and of course no one could help me. If the policy was denied why did it come at the time of his death and not at the time the application was received and why did they send me 1,000 dollars to help with expenses? I just want other people to be aware of this. If you have life insurance thru this company to help your family you wont know if they went thru the same thing I did because you won't be here. Everytime I see Alex kerbeck and that commercial I wonder rhow thos e people at colonial can sleep!

Probably a graded life policy

AUTHOR: listen and read everything - ()

POSTED: Thursday, January 08, 2015

Generally , non med life polices tend to be graded life plans.

That is a small percentage of life benefits paid out the 1st 2 years

and after that the full benefit.

It didn't indicate when your dad passed but if it was the 1st 2

years of the policy that may be what it was......did you read

the policy docs and the application when you signed?

Misinformed and Misinforming

AUTHOR: John - ()

POSTED: Tuesday, July 08, 2014

With all due respect to the individual that wrote this report, Colonial Life and Accident Insurance Company ("Colonial Life") and Colonial Penn Life Insurance Company ("Colonial Penn") are two different companies that market to two different markets and have no relationship whatsoever as the title of this report implies.  Allow me to correct this.

Colonial Life is headquartered in Columbia, SC. and is owned by the UNUM Group.  Colonial Penn is headquartered in Philadelphia, PA and the last I knew were owned by a company called Bankers Life and Casualty.  I know because I've worked for both as an insurance agent and sales manager.

Colonial Life is an employee benefits company that markets to businesses.  Colonial Penn is a life insurance company that markets to senior citizens.  There are other distinctions that I don't care to get into.  I'll just say that comparing the two is the epitome of comparing apples to orangutans.  It just doesn't make any sense.

I'm not defending Colonial Penn and I'm not discounting in any way this person's experience with them.  I just feel that it's unfair and misleading when people say things or otherwise imply them that are inaccurate and that needs to be addressed.

If you didn't know this; now you know.  Don't allow yourself to be mislead.

We should always be careful what we say.  I'm sure nobody wants anyone bad mouthing them and they had absolutely nothing to do with what was said/written.  Again, I'm not defending Colonial Penn or Colonial Life for that matter.  I am defending accurate communication.  I feel that pepole have a tendency to be attracted to negativity and information should be communicated carefully and accurately for multiple reasons.  Just a word of caution.

That said: it's a shame what this person says happened to them and I sympathize.  I hope you can recover if you haven't already and I wish you the best.
