Nate Peterson (aka Nathan) is a poor general house construction contractor. Nate promises a lot and talks a good game, but once he is process of building, one can see that he is clearly over his head.

We researched modular home builders in Colorado and found four that appeared legitimate. We met with those builders, ask questions, and made a decision to go with Nate Peterson. He answered our questions and presented his plan of attack. We even walked through four houses that Nate completed in Grant County. It appeared that Nate understood the building process and it look like he could do a good job. There was some poor communication early on but Nate talked himself out of that.

We meet with Nate and All American Homes in Milliken, Colorado to come up with a custom floor plan for our new house. That process went fairly well. Nate also sold us on the idea that the house can be completed in 6 weeks. It seems crazy to build a house in that short of a time period, but Nate provided a rough schedule.

We gave the factory a deposit for the house the second week of April, 2012. All American did get slammed with orders for houses that week and we didn't get the house delivered until August 20, 2012 (that is another story). Nate was plugging away at the foundation in July and we were delivering dirt for landscaping. Nate did estimate 40 truck loads of dirt where in reality we delivered a 120 truck loads of dirt. We did quiz Nate about the sewer hookup but he basically ignored our question. Nate did a good job with the foundation and the dirt work. He even let us borrow his earth moving equipment.

So 4 days before the house is delivered, we meet with Nate to hammer out who is responsible for completing what portions of the construction. With everything decided on and the house on site, it was GO time. Nate coordinated the crane and crew to pick and set the two halves. Nate did a good job with setting the house. After that, it was a struggle and a fight with Nate.

It took 19 more weeks before we got the certificate of occupancy from our county. The house was ready in 13 weeks, but the state wouldn't put their certification stickers on the structure. Nate was very unhelpful with this issue.

  • Ignored the sewer connection until the last possible second. This could have cost us an extra $20,000 for a street cut if the main wasn't “stubbed” into our property.

  • Delayed dirt work – public service won't install underground utilities until final grade is established.

  • Nate will nod his head and say “yes we can do that”, then completely ignore your request and “space it out”.

  • Budget painters – Nate picked two clowns off the street to do the final painting (inside and out). Those two “painter” managed to get paint all over the trim and windows, and in a week were only 20% done. We had to find some local painters to finish Nate's portion of work.

  • His poor working relationship with his carpenters. With about a week left to go on our house, Nate's subcontracted carpenters walk out on him because Nate owned them money.

  • He is a poor communicator and leave a lot to chance.

Nate did honor the 1 year warranty and repaired some minor setting cracks but I would NEVER employ Nate to build us a house in the future. Steer clear of him.
