On January 2nd I received a call from Concast offerring me a promotion. Although I was skeptic the caller new my name my cell phone # and my email address (which he forwarded information to me) and what my bill was every month and what I owed on my bill now. How did he know all this personal stuff without me providing it.  I called the comcast # on my bill 1-800-comcast asked if they were associated with the phone# that called me which was 1-855-238-7913? the customer service representative from comcast with out any anwer just transferred my call to the potential "scammer". I decided it must not be a scam since comcast themselves forward me to the #. I decide to take the promotion and the representative tells me that I must pay in advance and purchase a Greendot. Moneypak card to make the payment because that is part of the promotion. I purchased the card and paid $200.00. 2 Weeks later I get a new bill from Comcast and the $200.00 was not credited. I call comcast back and to my surprise they never got my payment. I explained the whole story and they called the  1-855-238-7913 number and it says it is a Comcast # but they dont know for sure if it belongs to their company? ARE YOU KIDDING ME? They said if I think I got scammed to go to the police station. I said how can I do that if you cannot confirm nor deny that this # belongs to your company? And if it does not how did someone know all my information? If your company's computers were hacked and customer information was stolen then YOU need to notify the police and ALL your customers and make them aware of this! Either way they DO NOT WANT TO HEAR IT! They DO NOT CARE! And they are covering up the whole mess. Not saying if its an inside job at their company or what. They transferred me to a supervisor an after having me on hold for 1/2 an hour the call hangs up on you! THIS COMPANY IS HORRIBLE DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THEM! They share your information or hire scammers either way you loose!

Fraudsters DO have access to ComCast account information.

AUTHOR: Joan m - ()

POSTED: Sunday, January 26, 2014

I realize it sounds strange that the 855 number could transfer them to Comcast, but there really is something wrong here. I had a similar experience, i didn't give them the Greendot money, but I did give them my credit card infor to pay my bill. They knew the exact amount and had other account information, my regular bill, etc., just like the original poster said.

Then within 10 minutes I had three unauthorized charges on my card for a  prepaid phone company in Luxembourg. I called them back to report, thinking it really was Comcast, and pushed the button for technical support. Yes, they have different options, this is a very sophisticated program. Call the 855 number yourself, it's amazing. Somehow Comcast IS involved with this, I don't know how.

Today I called Comcast, the 1-800-Comcast number, to let them know. They said they would call me back within a half hour to get more information and never did.  Meanwhile, there is a charge on my Chase card from Comcast, 1-800-Comcast as their phone number, from their local office here.

This isn't just some simple id theft or money scam, these people are actually accessing ComCast records. He put me on pause and came back with my financial info. I'm really surprised there's nothing  anywhere about this situation. And wonder how Comcast is connected with this, they HAVE to be on some level because these people have my account information. ALL Comcast customers need to be made aware of this thing. Then the next step is the obvious widespread id theft and fraud as a result. It just still seems unbelievable ... but it really did happen to me, yesterday.

#1 UPDATE Employee

You got scammed but not by Comcast

There are some issues with your report.  First of all, Comcast has no way to transfer a call to that fake 855 number, and no, it's not a Comcast number.  A simple internet search proves that.  Also, Comcast will never ask you to get a Greendot card or use Western Union for payment of a promo.  THIS WAS A SCAM!  And let me guess, the person you spoke to at the 855 number had either a Middle Eastern or Indian accent.

That email you posted also should have given it away that it was a scam.  Did you not notice the many grammatical errors?  A Fortune 100 company would not send out an email that bad.

You were scammed and are now trying to blame Comcast.  These are very similar to the "Advanced Payday Loan" scams where you are asked to send "good faith" payments by Greendot cards.  It's probably the same low lifes running this scam.  Bottom line is Comcast won't be able to do anything about it.
