We bought a Compaq in May last year. It's been nothing but trouble from day 1, but that's a different story. We brought the monitor in (it was broken)to store #501 in late March on a Saturday.

I was told that the warranty had expired in January. It was only after calling Compaq that I found out I had a 1-year warranty. I asked to speak to a manager; I believe his name was Thomas Blouin (spelling may be wrong). He somehow didn't know all Compaqs had a 1-year warranty, though he assured he had one at home.

He did not seem to care at all about any of our problems. He told us that Comp-USA did not have to do anything. I told him about how I had tried for 6 months to try and get my $200 rebate from Comp-USA.
I told him how I followed every instuction to the tee, called and faxed items they requested, and how, still, I got no rebate. (I still have my receipt if anyone cares). The rebate department must get paid on how little money they send out. First, they told me I had not sent in anything. This was 10 weeks after carefully sending in every required piece. I called a different department and they said they had the proof of purchase for the monitor only.

Mind you I put all three (computer, printer, monitor) proofs of purchase in the same envelope. It proved impossible to get my rebate. Finally, probably to get us out of the store, he said he would call the rebate department on Monday and call us back. No call.

We called and left a message for him. Nothing. That "manager" didn't even seem to care when I told him about how we were telling our friends and family never to go near Comp-USA, many of whom are in the market for a new computer. This comput

Go to http://www.compaq.com/resellers and go to the partnet locator. Your monitor should be under warranty. Look for a service centre that is NOT Comp-USA and get the monitor repaired there. Also log a call with Compaq and see if they can have the case sent to customer relations. They are pretty good with resolving these issues.
