I'm a 24 year customer of Compass Bank. I personally think that Compass Banks' NSF policy is criminal, and they should be criminally charged by any or all agencies possible. Call me stupid. When I make a deposit on Friday it should be credited to my account before any debits are deducted the day after. I don't care if it is written in fine print some where in their terms and conditions. They are screwing thousands of their customers a day. It might seem like a little thing. I am not a math wizard, but if you multiple $39 times 1,000 customers for 30 days we are now talking $1,170,000.00 a month. I really feel these numbers are low. Is this how we want our bank to work for us? I think not!

A portion of my work requires me taking between $10,000. to $15,000. of coinage back to my bank every week. More than a couple of times another customer asked the tellers "what are they doing with all those coins"? and without hesitation the teller fills in the other person with details of my transaction. My people are standing right there. They don't even try to hide it. This is unaccusable! When I ask the banks "person in charge", about this I was just blown off. It's no big deal. Ya, right! It puts my people in harms way. They are now known to be leaving the bank with thousands of dollars in cash on their person. It is no other customers business how I conduct my private banking transactions. Is this how we want our private banking transactions to be keep private? I think not!

Now after 8 years of taking my coinage back to the bank I am being told that they will no longer do this for me. It's too much work for them. All my coinage was sorted, bagged and totaled for them. If there was ever a problem with my count, all they had to do was tell me. The shortage was taken from one of my accounts. No questioned asked. I'm not trying to screw them out of .50 cents. I might add that a couple of times I shorted myself. They also notified me when this happened. I didn't think I was asking for a service out of the whelm of ordinary banking transactions. I offered to pay any and all fees that they might incur on my behalf each and every week. I was again told no. Is this the kind of service we want from our bank? I think not!

I have been told by the district manager and the regional manager that they did not have to provide this service to me. They did it out of the kindness of their heart. I was also told that there was no phone number for the corporate office. After 24 years of loyal business, I thought I deserved better treatmet than this. I guess not!

Most bank do not taken coins of rolls anymore. Why. Bank have to open the coin rolls and count the amount against your account. This take time and cost more to teller than time.

Best way it take lose changes and/or rolls of coins to self-service coin machine. You can find them at some food store (Food Loin) and some bank.

I used to belong to a credit union that was based in another county. It had a satellite office in my county - they refused to accept coins, period....my guess was that they had armored car service to just take cash back to the main office, and they use plastic bags for that now, not canvas, so they couldn't take coins in those bags.

And the big banks are doing that too. They want to cut costs so they are trying to convert branches into the same thing - just a brief home for cash and checks, but nothing else. Odds are with that much loose/rolled coin on a weekly basis, you really should contact their business banking department and discuss vault services with them in order to continue depositing coins. Accepting deposited coins is expensive on analysis (when you look at the charge on the analysis statement).

You're right.

Banks should post debits before credits. It only seems fair, right? However they don't have to so they don't.

As for the coinage, most banks stopped accepting coins years ago. It was a banking customer service that was thrown out with all the other perks of being a customer. They were just being nice by taking your coins because they don't have to. When you started complaining about the tellers talking about your business (I'm not saying you didn't have good reason), they probably decided it wasn't worth extending you the coinage service anymore. I'm sure that cutting you off made their job easier and all you had to do was give them a reason.

These days, you complain, you get less. Unfortunately those of us with valid complaints lose because those with ridiculous complaints ruined it for all.

I should be rich enough to retire by now and I should have the last twelve Playmates fighting each other over me. Unfortunately, I have to live in this reality.

Gary, I can see that you're angry and need to vent. Having said that, we don't always get our way.

You should care. That's the way the bank is going to do business. If you want an account with them (or virtually any other major bank), then that's also the way you are going to play.

It sounds like you were floating transactions and that just doesn't work anymore. I'm not great at math either- it's my worst subject but I do know not to let my account go negative. In this economy, I figure there are better things to do with the money than give it to the bank.
