My banking relationship began with Compass Bank out of a convenience to my Broker who makes my deposits for me while I travel for my job. Compass Bank Branches never held any deposits until my husband visited the downtown Fort Worth Bank and a hold was placed on a check. The reason given was multiple NSF charges in past 6 months.

This bank encourages overdraft with their overdraft privaledges. This bank honors those I write checks to more than me i.e. they clear checks immediately but I cannot access my funds immediately after depositing them - even cash! This bank abused the power given to them by our government to return autodrafts for my mortgage and auto payments, etc. while they charged me the $38.00 overdraft fee for each auto payments scheduled during the 10 days.

This bank has abused it's power to hold my funds for it's benefit for the reasons outlined i.e. NSF when they encourage "overdraft privaledges" in it's attempts to gain customers, caused me to be damaged by compromising my relationship with debtors, fraudulently advertised a services and then used it against me and did not adher to my requests to not be contacted regarding these matters. I wrote emails through website I utilize to review my account and was told it was the branch decision.

I called the branch and made my demand known to the person who authorized the hold. I was told the Customer Service Manager would call me and I demanded that she not call. She called anyway. Yesterday I received a letter and my husband has received two phone calls offering him a LOAN to cover business expenses. They are guilty and they are trying to cover their b___ on this one. Please do not do business with COMPASS Bank.

Bank abuse is running rampant.

AUTHOR: Jmcalifornia - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, June 25, 2009

Bank abuse is running rampant with abusive fees that the banks themselves encourage you to incur.Who monitors there debit card usage down to the penny? Not many but you have to because of the abusive practices of banks that charge you a flat fee regardless of the infraction. Instead there should be a fee based on a percent on the amount on question up to a maximum of $?. Individuals need to take responsibility but so due banks that encourage debit card spending. The banks are taking advantage of the poor and those of us that can least afford these abusive fees. I am arguing that there should be no fees but they must be reasonable. The three previous rebuttals all place blame on the author but not one called into question the banks practices.

Who is doing the abusing?

You overdraft your account not the bank.

A simple rule of thumb. Draw against the funds when they are available. No NSFs. Imagine that.

They also encouraged you not to keep a register?

AUTHOR: John - (U.S.A.)

"This bank encourages overdraft with their overdraft privaledges"

No, they don't. YOU are suppose to know what's in your bank account and that's done by keeping a register. What did you do well before when there weren't debit cards and online bill pay? You had to write the checks and mark it in a register.
No ripoff much like all the others.
