Marriot Financial Services Fraud, Scam, Sweepstakes ripoff North Bay Ontario

I was sent a letter from Marriot Financial Services that said the following:
RE: Final Award Notification,

We are pleased to inform you through this letter that our network shows you as the lucky winner of unclaimed prize money in the amount of Ninety Five Thousand dollars ($95,000) in United States funds. the system indicates that your name was randomly selected through a computerized ballot system as a winner for the 2007 sweepstakes draws. Congratulations!

All Participants were selected through a computerized ballot system drawn from Readers Digest, Publishers Clearing House, Online Sweepstakes, Internet Games, ect.

Enclosed, please find a check of $3,190.00 which covers both the administrative payment and clearnce fees of your winnings. For authorizing and processing of your prize please contact your North American agent, Ms. Joanne LAFLEUR, upon reciept of this letter at 705-770-0528. Your winnings must be claimed no later than Friday May 18th 2007 by 5:00 pm Eastern Standard Time.

I called, the lady on the other end of the phone told me to cash the check and send them the money. I feeling unsafe, took it to my bank and requested to speak to the supervisor, had her look at the check, she stated the check is a fraud check, I called the National Fraud Check Center, who in turn told me " since this came from Canada there is nothing that can be done, except to not cash the check, If we would have put this check in our bank account and withdrew money - We could have went to jail for check fraud"

Something needs to be done about this before an innocent person goes to jail. And to top it off they are using the Trade Mark of Marriot Hotels.

Please be aware of anything you recieve. Do research on anything you recieve, so you are not the one to go to jail because a company or an indivual is running a scam.
