I ordered a DNA test from ConnectMyDNA.com in September 2013 through an online coupon promotion.  After a month of waiting, I discovered my results waiting for me online.  The presentation of the results is aesthetically appealing with all the charts and scientific explanation.  What was missing was the truth.

The test claims to match the client's genetic profile with the genetic profile of people living in more than 80 countries around the world.  They go to great lengths to tell you that it is not an Ancestry DNA test, but rather a current population DNA match service.  The difference being that population genetics includes migration patterns while Ancestry DNA considers lineage. Regardless of this difference, one would assume that there would be a strong correlation with one's ancestry and the current populations of those countries if the population samples are legitimate and comprehensive.

In my case, I have documented French and English heritage.  I have medium brown hair, fair skin, and blue eyes so my physical characteristics are spot on.  My husband, however, hails from Morocco with dark skin, black hair and black eyes.  I have assumed his last name.

Guess what country my genetic profile is most compatible with?  Morocco.  Are you kidding me? That is ludicrous.  I have no compatibility with the current Moroccan population which is very homogenous.  At first, i thought maybe my husband's DNA somehow got on my cheek cells, but that is also ridiculous.  And, it wouldn't explain the hundreds of other people who have complained about this company.  I think they researched my married name and made some assumptions.  Utterly ridiculous.

When I complained to the company, I received several form letters stating that the test is not an Ancestry DNA test so I should not be surprised to find out that I am most like people in Morocco.  If it were other parts of Europe, I could accept that due to migration pattersn, but Morococo?

I filed a complaint with the BBB and noticed that almost all of the complaints had been resolved (e.g., refunds issued) which explains the reason they still have an A+ rating.

Don't waste your time with the scientific double-talk and useless results.  They are meaningless.
