Consumer Gas Cooperative is a private gas company who has evidently taken over part of columbia gas's customer base. CGC makes you become a "member", charges you 70.00 to become a member, then charges you a 300.00 deposit even though you've had gas with other companies in this county. they claim this 300.00 will be returned after 1 year but they do not return the money.

when i call, they tell me it will be another 90 days even though it's been almost 15 months since i paid my deposit. i've emailed the president, vice president, i've reported them to everyplace i can think of. they do not even return my calls or emails.

these nasty people have a monopoly on the gas service so you have no choice but to get service from them or go without heat.

I hate being forced to do business with a company, especially one that treats it's customers like crap because they have no where else to go.

I am a customer of Consumer's Gas Cooperative (CGC) as well. I did not enjoy the commenter's suggestion that the complainant didn't make all their monthly payments on time and that's why they couldn't receive their refund. In fact, this is nothing new with CGC and when it's refund time they don't care if you've made your payments on time.

Also the exorbitant $325 deposit is required of EVERYONE. It has no bearing on credit.

And yes, Ken, we are "members" but it is the folks running this schlock operation that the complainant is referring to and I agree wholeheartedly. Also, what are we members of? Something over which we have zero input or control. The last time I joined something it was VOLUNTARY and I was able to at least vote on various issues. This is INvoluntary and members have nothing to do with CGC or how it runs. If they did they would not accept being charged $8.69/mcf for April 2014 when Dominion's published rate is $5.014/mcf. If you're about to object that Dominion has other charges and fees, save your typing fingers because CGC does too.

This is an unregulated utility (which should be illegal) who report to NO ONE and can behave as they please. If I could move from these insurmountable gas bills and problems I would.

Oh, and just for the fun of it, let's not forget it takes THREE WEEKS to get gas service in your name through a hilariously antiquated snail mail process. If you don't know this upon renting or purchasing a property (and how would you?) you will be delaying your move date and writing checks to your previous ower or landlord for the gas bill. Further, they do not accept any HEAP or PIPP Plus plans so anyone receiving assitance who accidentally moves to a CGC home is in for a big surprise and probably an eviction. CGC curtly told me "at other gas companies everyone else pays for people who don't want to pay, but we don't do that to our members." Funny, because paying ridiculous rates, fees (exactly the kind charged by regulated utilities to make up for any PIPP Plus losses) is exactly what members do. And when a member has a hardship, well, screw you, we will be keeping the fees instead of putting them into the State of Ohio fund for PIPP and HEAP. It is purely so they can pocket profits. And if you're about to say members see those profits, tell me how, because so far I've been ripped off and told I'm someone who doesnt WANT to pay my bill because I inquired about PIPP Plus.

The most backward, condescending, and unprofessional place I have ever seen.

Do they charge ALL customers/members this deposit, or just you and some others with a poor payment history?  I'm betting on the latter.

Many companies extend the time they hold the deposit if you make late payment(s)...yes, by even a day.

They MUST have told you why yours is being held, especially since you went to so much trouble to contact the entire co-operative.

I'll go out on a limb here and say, you likely DID make one or more late payments and KNOW the reason they're holding you funds...right?

You do know that this is a co-operative and every "customer" is a member?

"..these nasty people have a monopoly on the gas service..."

That would include you, as a member.
