I've had a car loan with these people for over a year now and had always paid on time until August of this year. I'm a single parent and I also take care of my mom because she's unwilling to find a job. So, in August, I had to 'drop' about $4000 for a new place and didn't think that being 1 month late on my car payment would be a big deal, I would just double-up in September. Well, before my payment was even a week overdue, the harrassment began.

These people have somehow obtained phone numbers of friends I haven't talked to in months or even years and have told them that they are from CPS...so, the first thing that comes to everyone's mind is Child Protective Services! I've got friends calling me to find out if everything's OK and if they can help me with the kids?! They've been telling anyone they can reach that they are from CPS and that I need to contact them right away!

Being that I live in Hawaii, we are a few hours behind from California and they call all day while I'm at work telling me that if I don't call them TODAY that they are going to send someone to pick up the car. They've been saying that for the past 2 weeks. I've tried calling the agents that have been leaving messages on my phone but usually get voice mail so I left a message and told them that I would be mailing a check. The next day, I get a nasty message from the agent saying that they won't except it and that I HAVE to call and make a payment by phone?! Is it even legal to force someone to pay a debt by phone...and have to pay the fee?

I just made a payment on-line and just paid the $10 fee and then a get a call from yet another representative telling me that they're sending an agent out today to pick up the car. I know I was late but WOW...I didn't realize that a loan company would stoop as low as to track down any phone numbers associated with you (I don't know how they did it or if it's even legal). I just want to pay these people off as soon as possible and never hear from them again!
