CROOKED PASTOR

AUTHOR: Lena - (USA)

POSTED: Tuesday, August 31, 2010

This all started right after  Hurricane IKE in 2008, this is our first home so we were really worried, well we bought the home as is so it was already a fixer upper, and the storm came along and did a lot of damage, we submitted a claim to our insurance company and the adjuster came out . The money the insurance co gave was sent to the mortgage company which I thought was a little unfair. Then the mortgage company told me that they could not release any funds out unless we sent in a contractor bid along with a W9, I could not find anybody   so I was walking one day and I seen a house that was getting work done on it and it looked pretty good, so I got the number from the small poster that was in the yard. I called contractor and they come to my house and looked at the damage and the insurance adjusters bid, and told me my house will look like a brand new house after they complete all the work. I was so happy that I signed the 1 page contract, without really understanding the terms and words, I was told that they would go by the insurance adjuster bid. So I was never given a bid from them or a contract with a time frame or prices. The contract was with Cornerstone Builders (Roy and Carlos Bounds). So after that the work was not started about 7 to 9 months later. Carlos said this was because she was trying to get more money from the insurance because the roof of the garage had more damage than the insurance company would cover, and the insurance company would not give more money ,they started on the roof of my home and while there where working on it , Carlos called and said she will need to submit for a little bit more money because they notice my roof needed new rafters or frame, so she submitted  info and the insurance company approved, I started getting a little worried because it took the roof workers another month to come and complete the roof. By me not knowing anything about contractors  and how the game works, I thought the contractor did the work not subcontractor  the hire off the street, so I asked the guys that completed the roof in 1 day , did you replace a new rafter or frame and they told me no and that they were not told to do that , and they only replaced 2 sheet of ply wood and put new shingles, I just started crying because in a way I knew this was going to be a long journey, and I had already given the 1st insurance check to them for approx $6,780. I called Carlos and was told that they lied to me because they are trying to get work on the side, this really confuse me because these people work for them.  So after  that Carlos told me that the money the insurance has given for repair of the garage roof  and new AC can be used to just tear it down  because it was so bad. I said ok, but there was never a contact done for those changes, I asked but they never gave me any paperwork. After that they send about 3 different sub contractor to look at the outside of my home to replace some boards that need to be replaced, the one that they hired did a very poor job and Carlos agreed with me when she came out to see and told Roy to have another person to come and redo it. Well Roy came out and did some work for 1 day , then the next day he sent his brother in law thereafter he sent another subcontractor to complete the work . I just was not satisfied with the work that has already been completed everything look half done and not complete. Carlos told me well what you want us to do with no money. After that they told he they can paint what was supposed to be painted on the outside and a little more since if we wanted to re route some of the money from the inside to the outside.  Nothing ever came up about I would need more money other than the insurance money.  The paint job was so bad that it started peeling the next day after they painted, it was light in some spot , dark in others, the back door was left the old color and the painted over bugs and wires . This is just not right the work they did. By this time I had given them approx $13,500 by now. After that I complained again and was told it is just not enough   money, but it was enough when that started the job, I never knew people could rip you off like this and nothing can be done. After that I was told the remainder of the money can be used to paint the inside of my home. That job was a disaster, the painters painted over nail, sticker, they did not replace any sheet rock and they did not paint the base broads, I was told there is not enough money.  The paint job looks the same as if they have never painted. A day after that Roy came to my house with a letter for me to sign saying I am completely satisfied and I said I am not signing anything and I will not give you another dollar, and the day after that he came by and said they will be filing a lien, from here I did not know what to do I just did not feel right with given them money and I am not happy. I filed a complaint with the BBB and, I visited a lawyer and was told to write the contractor a complaint letter and I did, so now I am just waiting while I have to come home from work every day and look at my home the way it is and they can file a lien on my, this is just not fair to the consumers. We went thru a arbitration meeting a I was awarded the remainder of the funds the insurance company still has and it was stated I was suppose to receive in writing that the lien is suppose to be removed, and that we have to a work together to get the remaining proceeds from the insurance company, well I contacted Carlos about the arrangements but she said she will not go thru with the decision because I filed a complaint against them thru ripoff.com and she was very upset about it.  My next step if the company does nnot call me and settle this is to report them to other agencies and to file a small claim aagainst them. These this is a pastor of a church can you believe that, I wonder if the church knows about how these people really conduct business. that why I have always said CHURCH is full of crooks. MY GOD
