I am a former internal employee of Ameriplan and I worked in the corporate office in Plano, TX. I was in a high position with the company so I know all of the going ons and legal problems that they have had over the years.

I have read stories from both sides of the spectrum. Some people love the company and some people strongly dislike it. Here is my opinion.

Let me start by saying that Ameriplan is disguised as a Consumer Driven Health Plan to it's unknowing consumers. This is just a nice way of saying "discount plan" but in our industry the word "discount" has a negative connotation and we avoid it at all costs. This term is quite confusing to consumers who are misled many times into believing that they are signing up for an actual insurance plan.

Not only is Ameriplan's dental and medical plan a discount plan but the company itself is an MLM (multi level marketing company) which many people are unaware of. Ameriplan makes 95% of their money from unsuspecting IBO's who initially sign up for a $250.00 training and marketing packet and then pay an additional $35.00 a month to be an IBO (Independent Business Owner) and also pay a hefty amount to Ameriplan for leads generated for the IBO's. Ameriplan only makes a small portion of revenue comparatively speaking from people who actually sign up for their discounted dental and medical plans.

The medical and dental plans are just a front for Ameriplan to appear as a legitimate business. The company would not survive if they did not receive the monthly fees that they collect from their 50,000 plus IBO's and we all know that only the top 2-3% of the IBO's are making any substantial amount of money. Just like every MLM you must get in early to make any $$$$.

Also, I can confirm that Ameriplan was sued by the state of Montana and suspended by the B.B.B. because essentially they were charging their Ameriplan members a monthly fee for dental and medical plans but they were not providing an actual service because there were no providers in the entire state. No doctors= no service. Ameriplan settled with the state of Montana for around 200k-400k I was told by an executive.

Ameriplan would argue that they are not liable because they actually rented their network of physicians from Beechstreet Network and one other network, who's name I forget, and that they are responsible. Hence Ameriplan is in the process of dissolving their contract with them and suing them in return.

I would argue that it is Ameriplan's responsibility and moral obligation to insure and stop these types of problems before they occur. It is false representation to your members to say that you have a network of 30,000 physicians when in actuality you only have around 12,000 "in network providers" that accept your discounted plan. Ameriplan is also discontinuing membership in the following states because of the same problems: Alaska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming, Puerto Rico, Guam and possibly Maine, Iowa, Nebraska, and Idaho. So beware if you are an IBO in any of these states.

Also, for the IBO's that are out there. Ameriplan has started to recruit agents that are usually licensed to sell insurance plans to sell Ameriplan benefits. These agents have no monthly fees to sell the plans as you do and they make a hefty commision off of each plan that they sell. They are in direct competition with you guys. In my opinion they are undermining your work without your knowledge.

I have worked with Dennis & Daniel Bloom, Julia Baker, Doug Brooks, Laura W., Barry, and several others so I can support & attest to everything I have just told you.

Lots of misinformation on AmeriPlan

AUTHOR: Barry - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, July 16, 2007

I have a great deal of respect for the opportunity that RipOff Reports offers to the consumer to find the facts. However, when a "former employee with a high position" can make such blatantly untrue and misinformed statements I feel obligated to respond, particularly when I am mentioned by name.

I know AmeriPlan very well, having been involved in it since the beginning and having worked with it's founders for more than 28 years. This will not be a diatribe on the statements that have been made or a condemnation of the person making them, I will use this opportunity to dispell the falsehoods made.

First of all, I do want to state that AmeriPlan has millions of satisfied members, thousands of satisfied Independent Business Owners and hundreds of satisfied employees...many like me who have been with the company for many years. I also understand that there will be some who have not had such a pleasant experience and they may want to vent. That is fine as long as the "truth" is the foundation.

Here are my responses to specific allegations:

1 - AmeriPlan is NOT disguised as a Consumer Driven Health Plan. It is exactly that and has been saving it's members hundreds of millions of dollars a year in healthcare costs. It does that by enabling our members to access fine quality healthcare at a "discount" and, yes that makes it a discount plan. Every piece of literature that AmeriPlan puts out clearly states that "AmeriPlan is not insurance".

2 - Ameriplan does not make 95% of it's money from unsuspecting IBO's. Every IBO is fully informed as to the nature of the business, what it will cost and what is expected of them. AmeriPlan conducts what is called a First Touch call wherein every applicant receives a personal telephone call to make sure that they understand the nature of the business and their commitment.

AmeriPlan as a matter of fact, derives more than 80% of it's revenues from it's satisfied members and not it's IBO's.

AmeriPlan does not make any money from leads for the IBO's.

3 - The medical and dental plans are not a front for the business, they are the business. Since AmeriPlan receives more than 80% of it's revenue from memberships and members do not stay in the plans if they are not receiving value, the plans must work. I personally have saved more than $36,000 in the past fifteen years on the dental, vision, prescription and chiropractic plan.

4 - AmeriPlan came to an agreement with the State of Montana to stop doing business in that state. AmeriPlan had less than 100 members and IBO's in the State of Montana and was using an outside physicians network to provide access to physicians in that state. The provider did not have the number of doctors that they represented and that caused a problem with Montana. We did have more than enough providers of other services in the state, but agreed to withdraw from the state.

5 - AmeriPlan has never misstated the number of providers in any of its networks. the network records are documented and sustainable. AmeriPlan has not had to stop doing business in all of the states that our "former employee" has indicated.

6 - AmeriPlan is not planning on cutting the IBO out of the business by competing with them by calling on insurance agents. the insurance agents that have been signed up to write business with AmeriPlan have done so through an existing IBO where there are IBOs to handle this type of business. It has always been AmeriPlan's position to protect the IBO.

7 - I also find it quite interesting that a "former employee wiith a high executive position" does not even know the titles of the people that he worked with, even those titles have been listed and are public knowledge. Other than the Founder's, every single other title that he mentioned is incorrect. Names are correct, titles and functions are wrong.

I hope that this will shed some light and ttruth and this matter. i would hate to think that someone lost a great opportunity to make money or save money because of someone carrying a grudge.

IDIOT RANT From a So-Called "High Positioned Corporate Employee"

AUTHOR: Roger - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, July 09, 2007

I had to hold it together reading this ... way too funny from a so-called employee. No way my friend, nice try hiding behind that deamed up 'title' and position with the corporate office,

Before I submit my response to your rant, allow me to respond to some of the facts that you did bring up. Yes, some IBO's out there should not have been promoting in areas that they should not. It is unfortunate that some "mlm'ers" use leads and scripts to enroll others in areas that AmeriPlan does not yet have a foothold. In this day and age it is disheartening to think that people will actually pay money without doing research.

DO THE RESEARCH:

We help everyday people save money & make money...EVERYDAY!

First off, if you were 'high positioned in the company' you would know that our members LOVE the savings & actually stay on the books for years. I will acknowledge that there are some Independent Business Owners in AmeriPlan that do not represent AmeriPlan properly & their enrollments may cancel quickly because they were not properly educated and trained on how to experience the huge savings.

Secondly, in your 'high position' you also know that over 80% of our income is REPEAT residual income from the MEMBERSHIP ... NOT business owners. Go find any other 15 year old company network marketing company with that retention rate.

I'll close by saying this: Rip Off Report allows any idiot (ticked-off, fired or fake employee) to post here.

Do your own homework & you'll find that I saved a Medicare patient over $900 on one trip to the dentist. I have an eldery couple that saves over $600 on their monthly meds. You'll also find that I personally save $110 per pair of contact lenses. Ask me & I'll show you a $750 discount on an MRI for my son's leg.

In a nutshell - rip off report is a nice place for crooks or FIRED employees to post comments...They only WISH they had what we HAVE!

God Bless!

RESPONSE TO YOUR INACCURATE REBUTTAL

AUTHOR: Anonymous - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, July 09, 2007

This is in response to your inaccurate rebuttal about Ameriplan suing the State of Montana.

Ameriplan did not file charges against the state of Montana until after Montana had already filed charges against them. Ameriplan was simply counter suing. The state of Montana decided to sue after several of its residents complained and were in the process of suing Ameriplan for unlawful business practices. They were suing on the basis of paying Ameriplan a monthly fee for dental & medical coverage but not receiving any coverage because there were no providers or an inadequate number of providers in their area. Ameriplan continued to allow its IBO's to sell the dental & medical plan there even though it was well aware of the problems with the non existent provider base in the state. This problem had been going on for 2 years previous to the lawsuit.

I agree that Ameriplan should only be held partially responible for the members that were only signed up for their MEDICAL plan because Ameriplan was renting a panel of physicians from the Beechstreet Network who had supposedly agreed to accept Ameriplan patients when they came into their office for treatement. This was not the case. The Beechstreet physicians had never signed a contract saying that they agreed to accept Ameriplan patients; they had only signed a contract saying that they would treat Beechstreet patients. Beechstreet had misrepresented themselves in saying that the panel of doctors that they had recruited for their network had agreed to accept Ameriplan patients. Beechstreet is a traditional PPO plan where any doctor that accepts the plan agrees to be reimbursed the UCR determined by Beechstreet in their area which is usually 90%-98% of the doctors' UCR (usual and customary rate). First they refused to accept Ameriplan because they had never signed a contract and secondly they refused the plan because the rates that Ameriplan payed the doctors were much too low (Usually about 20% above Medicare). It is hard for a doctors office to make much profit if all of his patients are only paying him 20% above medicare. The only reason that some doctors accept medicare is that they believe that they have a moral obligation to the aging and poor population to treat them. If they decided to only accept medicare and Ameriplan patients then every doctor in the country would be out of business.

This is the part where Ameriplan is liable. The fact still remains that Ameriplan was also sued for selling DENTAL service to the people of Montana when in fact there were no providers there. Ameriplan has its own proprietary network of dentists and it does not rent any other networks. There were no other networks involved and so Ameriplan has no excuse. Ameriplan was well aware that it was selling DENTAL memberships to people in Montana when there were no actual dentists in the state that accepted the plan. That was the problem: Ameriplan was selling a service to its members but in all actuality there was no service ever provided because there were no dentists.

As I have said in the past, if you would like to contact anyone in the corporate office just ask for:

Julia Baker: Incompetent Provider Relations V.P. and Director of Recruiting

Doug Brooks: He trains the IBO's

Daniel & Dennis Bloom: The Immoral owners

Derrick F-He does training and motivaitonal speaking to get the IBO's excited

Their email addresses are their first name followed by the first intial of their last name @ameriplan.com

FYI "response to referrenced BBB"

AUTHOR: Lori - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, July 07, 2007

this is notification sent out by corporate.

About a year and a half ago Ameriplan began leasing a medical provider PPO

network called Beech Street. It's a good base of providers to have in

place as we build our own proprietary network (which is growing at a rate

of 150 doctors / week!).

In the state of Montana we had a PPO network list from Beech Street that

was inaccurate. The state of Montana informed the BBB that we didn't have

an adequate base of providers in their state to do business there.

We promptly pulled out of that state and all was well with Montana.

The BBB subsequently "suspended" our status with them in July. The BBB is

not allowed (by their OWN doctrine) to suspend any company unless that

company has an open legal action against them (we did not).

Each month the BBB gets together to review suspended cases. For EIGHT

MONTHS the BBB put off their meeting on our WRONGFUL suspension. So,

Ameriplan's legal team began the process of a lawsuit for wrongful

suspension.

When the BBB received the legal paperwork from us they revoked our

membership.

This is a long process, which is why I write. We will WIN the court case

but in the meantime we need to remove all BBB references on our FAHT and

corporate issue sites.

Please remove all the BBB references from your personal advertising and

emails as well.

Please understand, this company is affiliated with MANY credible

organizations and we can use them in our ads as well. The NATIONAL Chamber

of Commerce.... The DIRECT SELLERS ASSOCIATION, and the National

Association of Dental Plans, Medical Review Board. We are featured in Your

Home Business at Home magazine.

We can still move on and create a six figure income with or without the

BBB.
