A few weeks before christmas I ordered the full set of KNIGHT RIDER on DVD for my son in Slovakia. I used my international VISA credit card to place the order, the site stated it would confirm my order within 24 to 48 hours. I waited a week, never got a confirmation. Then after numerous tries of contacting them via e-mail and on their toll free numbers such as 1-877-TV-SERIES and 1-877-7-TV-SHOW I got an e-mail stating that my order was placed and they send me some sort of a tracking number that links you to a canadian post office site ( though the number doesnt exist in the database of the canadian post office).

The other fakt is that they charged my credit card around 8 bucks more than I agreed to when purchasing the item. The DVD set cost 98.99, international shipping charge came out to 53.99, the agreed total was 152.98, but I was charged around a 160 US dollars to my VISA card. I have since then cancelled that credit card, made a complaint at the bank and contacted ALLIEDWALLET, a firm that allegadly made the charge to my credit card, but without sucess, they couldnt recall the last four digits of the card in theis database.

I really hope that all the victims of this ongoing internet crminal enterprise will be brought to justice and that all the people who have been affected will be reimbursed.

Found another, PlanetMediaStore. Basically, they all have the same layout, "Contact Us" is always a form for contacting them, not any actual contact info(except maybe a email address linked to the website), every website is on a different server, yet all have the exact same FAQs, including a little bit about how the "Berne Convention" makes it legal for them to sell these pirated DVDs, even though the Berne Convention specifically states that the work does NOT need to be published to be protected by copyright.

BlueDVDStore is hosted in Ukrane, PlanetMediaStore is hosted in Poland, DVD Donkey is hosted in Ukrane, Allmyfavoriteshows.com appears to be dead, DVDAvenue.tv is hosted on the same machine as DVD Donkey, AllmyTVshows is also dead, Ultimatedvdshop is also dead, Tvboxset.com is hosted in Britain( I love how the contact info has no phone numbers, but it still instructs you to call the number 'listed above'), Tvaddicts.tv is hosted on the same machine as DVD Donkey and DVDAvenue.tv.

The way I figure it, they have a simple scam in place. They have their basic template for the website, they contact an "incorporating" company in another country to create a business for them(IE, registration and ect), look for a cheap hosting provider, then contact a billing firm to help with their now-nonexistent company. All credit card monies taken go to their accounts elsewhere, they never ship or ship bootleg goods, and leave anyone trying to get a refund or answers to sift through the mountain of fake contact info and PO boxes and clearinghouse mailboxes.

By the time any human, be it customer or law enforcement, finally gets close to reaching them, they just abandon the website, and start another. Which is why there are so many of the exact same website with different titles and minor changes to the FAQs.

The ONLY way to be safe while this scam is going is to go straight for the contact info. If you can't get on the phone with an actual human, then assume its this scam.

These guys might have been busted back in 2007, but its 2009 and the websites promising these DVDs are still up and running. Some people might have been nailed, but the business still runs. Beware people. BlueDVDshop appears to be another one.

Best advice I can give anyone looking for hard to find DVDs online... Look for official websites for the TV shows, see what the official DVD listings are, check wikipedia, as it usually has a list of what DVDs have been released. If you don't see the DVD's being offered, its probably a bootleg or scam.

Thats how I avoided wasting 100US on these clowns while looking at their offer for all 15 seasons of Red Green. Didn't see a complete series at the official, and wiki had no info on it at all. And no subtitles/closed-captioning/region-lock was a big warning sign. Even the most low budget studios usually have those.

That and the box-art looked a little off...15 seasons on 3 DVDs? Must be some terrible video quality.

C" Division - News Releases

Alleged Counterfeit DVD Distribution Network Dismantled by the RCMP

MONTRAL, Wednesday, December 19, 2007 Yesterday, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police conducted two searches in Montral, leading to the seizure of thousands of counterfeit DVDs and the arrest of eight suspects. These suspects allegedly belong to a network involved in the illegal reproduction and sale of counterfeit DVDs featuring U.S. television series. The accused could face several fraud charges under the Criminal Code and Copyright Act.

As a result of Operation Copyright, thousands of counterfeit DVDs of U.S. television series such as The Six Million-Dollar Man and Ally McBeal, in addition to 200 DVD burnerswere seized. The network allegedly operated from Montreal, selling and distributing counterfeit DVDs through several Web sites.

Victims in the United States and Canada
The counterfeit DVDs were sold as original works at a good price. Victims included Canadian consumers, but the majority of the victims were American citizens.

In February 2007, the RCMP Federal Investigation Section launched an investigation into this alleged network specializing in the reproduction and sale of counterfeit DVDs at the request of the Canadian Motion Picture Distributors Association, which had initially investigated this alleged network. The RCMP also received the assistance of the Canada Border Services Agency and Canada Post Security and Investigations Services.

Commercial Distribution and Sale Are Illegal
The RCMP takes action and investigates this type of crime if there are grounds to believe that the reproduction of a movie is intended for the purpose of commercial distribution, or to such an extent as to be prejudicial to the copyright holder. Under the Copyright Act, possessing a DVD copied for personal use is not considered a criminal offence.

Every person who copies or reproduces a movie for the purpose of commercial distribution or sale commits an offence under the Copyright Act.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police encourages consumers to be cautious. Counterfeit DVDs are usually of inferior quality. The RCMP invites every person believing to have been misled into purchasing a counterfeit DVD instead of an original copy to report it to the RCMP at 514-939-8307, or to contact the Canadian Motion Picture Distributors Association at 1 800 363-9166 to verify the legitimacy of Web sites.
