DON'T BE CONNED BY CORSAIR CHARTERS!!!!!!!

We chartered a "luxury yacht" from Corsair Charters/Dan Ureda in Valdez, Alaska for 8 days and what a mistake!  The website  and Mr. Ureda describe the Denali as "Alaska's  premier bareboat charter company!"  the "ultimate" experience  aboard the vessel Denali with "the latest navigational technology" and stating the vessel is "especially well suited for the waters of (Prince William) Sound".    What we got instead was the total opposite to  what he  described and promised.

We had been planning this trip beginning June 21, 2013  for over 6 months and obviously Mr. Ureda had MORE than enough time to insure the boat was in good shape with working gauges and in a SAFE condition for an 8-day barefoot charter.    But instead, he sent us out on an 8 day bareboat charter WITHOUT  WORKING FUEL OR WATER GUAGES -- without enough readily available  life preserves and with a dingy  and engine that were so old, ill fitted and in need of repair that the 3 of us nearly drowned.

Added to that was the fact that when we arrived on our "luxury" yacht - we found instead a 35 year old piece of  filthy junk -- all of the wood work in total disrepair and with dingy, dirty carpets, staterooms and bedding .....  littered with garbage and with 2 sinks full of dirty dishes.   The forward "stateroom" leaked water ON TOP OF THE BED and was so full of mold that it was inhabitable -- our guest who should have slept there had to sleep in the main salon.   The "main stateroom" had a bed so small the two of us could barely fit (and we are NOT big people) and my husband kept falling out of bed because the vessel was so unbalanced.     The "safety" rails around the boat were wobbly and unsteady.  The steps leading to the upper decks were unsafe.

Once we saw this mess and realized we had been deceived,  we would have returned home immediately had we not planned this vacation for over 6 months and had company flying in to join us -- not to mention that we had spent a LOT of $$ on air and had paid for the charter IN CASH (which Mr. Ureda insisted upon -- now we understand why!)   Once underway we discovered that NOTHING in the main salon had been secured and that the boat ROLLED at a ridiculous level so that EVERYTHING in the salon  fell down on top of us (toasters, microwave, dishes,  cabinet drawers etc, etc - during just a mild sea crossing.   And of course we were constantly worried that we would run out of fuel or water -- certainly not unwarranted since the gauges did not work!

This is but a very SMALL part of the problems we encountered and misrepresentations  and false advertising put forth by Mr. Ureda for which he charged us $1,000 per day -- $8,000 total (and of course ALL in advance) !    We demanded a refund from Mr. Rureda when we returned to port and his only comment was that he really didn't care.    Not a penny refunded - NOTHING.  Do we feel scammed??  You bet we do.  And add to that that he totally ruined what was supposed to be a joyous 30 year anniversary celebration.    Our totally unhappy experience with Corsair Charters tells us ..... BUYER BEWARE!!!!

UNSAFE AND FILTHY -- FALSE ADVERTISING!!

AUTHOR: Cynthia - (United States)

POSTED: Tuesday, February 13, 2018

Our experience chartering with Corsair Charters was BEYOND HORRIBLE!

Filthy and unsafe boat.  stateroom that leaked water ON THE BED and was filled with mold making it impossible for anyone to sleep there!! ..... two sinks filled with filthy dishes upon our arrival and the boat in general so disgusting with filth that we asked the owner to buy cleaning supplies and several pairs of rubber gloves so that we could clean up the mess and make it SOMEWHAT inhabitable during the cruise (for which we had already PAID in CASH as demanded by the owner and the owner refused to refund to us).   Dinghy in total disrepair and filled with water -- we tried to use it and NEARLY SANK!.

Outside "safety rails" totally wobbly and in disrepair .... paint chipped and peeling throughout (both inside and out) .... water that LEAKED through the portholes. Cupboards that would not close and that spilled contents onto the floor in ANY kind of mild sea.   I could go on and on.   Owner's comments re "two hairdryers" -- where did that come from?? There was ZERO hairdryer!!  We found this to be TOTAL FALSE ADVERTISING re the condition and safety of the boat with an owner that doesn't give a darn about ANYTHING because his is the only boat in the area available for charter (or was at the time we chartered).

After our NIGHTMARE  which we can only describe as a TOTAL RIPOFF experience we can only say again - BUYER BEWARE!!

#1 REBUTTAL Owner of company

One misguided client

AUTHOR: Dan - (United States)

POSTED: Thursday, January 25, 2018

We had a bad experience with a client in 2013 and his review continues to populate. He rented my boat and wanted a discount after the fact. The content of his disappointment was a dirty boat and poorly maintained vessel.

I have been in business for 20 years and this gentleman wrote the only poor review i have ever received, the details and condition of the boat that is 35 years old is a point of opinion and his knowledge and expectations were unrealistic. A 26-ton vessel in Alaska is well within the range of service and operation and will continue to be for the next 20 years as well.

My website displays corsair-charters.com the vessel in its current condition and I welcome all to inspect and become familiar with the operation through a check ride before departure. This guys issues were baggage handlers (none) and he did not know how to start the generator. Glow plugs are standard for a diesel engine and he was trained in stating operation accordingly. The issue of a filthy boat was ridiculous, as the boat was cleaned to my standard each and every time a client uses it. His sloppy and careless abuse (fish scales all over cockpit area) of the boat and refusal to fill the fuel tank (he stiffed me for $800) as he agreed to was his way of responding to a week-long tour of Prince William Sound.

Gauges and instrument have toggle switches to save battery when not in use, the boat rolling is part of boating and needs to be piloted accordingly, the front stateroom window hatch and does drip when condensation form in the morning(the pitched design is not the best but is water tight just the same).

the issue of safety gear is false,  two sets of PFD's are aboard for six clients (12) 6 of the large orange "Mae West" and six more comfortable adult sizes are neatly stowed in the aft closet. The dingy is well equipped with a new 10 hp motor and oars, this clients expectation for someone to deploy this equipment indicates his inexperience.

Any issue he may have had should have been addressed before he left the dock or during his trip. Issues do come up occasionally with any week-long rental and they are built into the contract for me to have the opportunity to correct. The last issue of not having two hair dryers aboard  (two bathrooms only one shower), her and her sister wanted to do their hair at the same time)was a good indication of what his wife's expectations were and a source of his writing the poor review.

Her royalty demeanor is not in line with Alaskan adventures on my boat, I do not rent the Queen Mary or rent to Queen Mary. My product is sound and has never been the question before or after. I would like this review removed it's not consistent with my many happy clients.
