We took my 17-yr-old son's car in for repair work. It was done the following day, so we picked it up when I got off work. The following day I found an ad offering a 15% discount to employees of the company I work for. I called to ask about it and the manager told me he didn't know I worked there. I reminded him that he had called me at work 3 times.

He said he would not give me money back ($165) but would offer an in-store credit. I don't think that is fair. I hadn't needed transmission work in over 15 years before this. My son's car should be ok- if they repaired it properly- and my car is still under manufacturer warranty. They advertised "15% discount" not "in-store credit for future work".
I am spreading the word!! My son could have used that money! He doesn't need an in-store credit!

~~~Pam~~~you and i know if a shop has the ability to charge more and keep it legitamately without being dishonest ~~~who got hurt?~~~~But in this case you were still offered a discount at your descretion when you could use it~~~If it has "no expiration"~~~or limits as to who can use it~~you could sell it to someone else and turn it into cash for no loss~~~~~so who gets hurt?~~~~THE TRANZMN
does your son work at that company???
maybe i did not read this post correctly, but i did not notice anywhere it stating your son worked for this company that receives discounts, does he?? it apears to be his car and he paid the tab from this post. if that cottman operator offered a in store discount, and the sale was finalised before discount issue was brought up, i tip my hat to that operator/ and or manager.
Read the signs!
AUTHOR: Dan - (U.S.A.)
POSTED: Sunday, December 12, 2004
Inside the store is a sign that simply states: " All coupons or discounts MUST be presented at the time of purchase". This is the company policy, not the store's. We are forced to follow certain guidelines and this is one of them.
Although most would find a request for a refund from a coupon after the sale to be totally unreasonable, we did offer to compromise with an in store credit. Pam should have been honest and told all of you that the sign was there and that was the rules. We do not appreciate her making dishonest remarks since they are obviously not true. Please come by our store and see for yourself. The sign is in bright yellow background and about 2' by 3 feet in size.
We have always honored any of our coupons, even if they are expired a few days! Thank you.
Why should you get a refund?
AUTHOR: Bruce - (U.S.A.)
POSTED: Friday, March 05, 2004
If you did not ask before you paid the bill, why should the company apply the refund to PAST invoices?
Had you asked for it before you authorized the work, or paid the bill, then they would be bound by there offer to honor the discount.
The offer of an in store credit is above and beyond what they are required to do. I suggest get it in writing and take the discount.
Also, notify of any discounts WHEN you pay the bill (not before a price quote), so you know they are discounting an actual charge, not an inflated one.
