Late November 2006 my transmission went out on my 2002 Doge Grand Caravan. I had it towed to the dealership where I paid for a diagnostic which told me that I needed a complete rebuild of my transmission and a TCM( torque converter module) but the charging price was a little outside of my budget. So I researched the internet and found Cottman Transmission and because it was advertised by a well known football player/actor I decided that I would give them my business.
I contacted Cottman , I was quoted a price by Tony (who at that time told me he was the manager and later found out he was just the mechanic on site that day)for the Rebuild and TCM which was 600.00 less than the dealer which would include towing from the dealership. Once the car was towed there it took about 4 weeks before I got my vehicle and when I got it it was leaking fluids and not running correctly. I took my van back every day for a whole week. Then I was told to leave it over the weekend and I would have it first thing Monday morning. I had to get a rental car.
When I called it wouldn't be ready until that Tuesday night so when I called it was another charge because it needed a TCM. Mind you that was what I had requested in the beginning because of the dealership disgnostic. There was a commotion concerning this extra charge, items missing from my van including to top it off my tag had been stolen from my van. They wanted to say it wasn't there when I brought it but they had the TAG number on the receipt.!DUH! So we negotiated the cost of the tag replacement and half price of the TCM which was supposed to be on the original quote. I just needed my transportation because I have kids that have to be places.(That's why I have a van to begin with)
Any way in February the same things started again check engine light on, car doing something funny like shifting for no reason while driving. So I took it back on Monday they said no problem you're still under warranty so we'll fix it with no charge. I called on a daily basis to check on the progress of the vehicle. ( I was in a rental car )The mechanic on duty kept saying I'm the only one on duty but I'm getting to it. I finally called and spoke with the manager on Thursday and he was pleasant saying it would be ready by Saturday but call Friday to check on it. I called all day Friday and couldn't get an answer so I decided to go by on Saturday. To my surprise the shop had been EVICTED. Pink slips decorated the front window giving info on the specific automobile and where you could get your keys from the police precinct.
Upon getting my keys from the Police that Monday(still in a rental car) I found out my family van still had not been serviced. I had to have it relocated to the Cottman on Buford Hwy which is about 25 to 30 miles out and not easy to get to considering I'm not an expressway driver. I kept my hopes up thinking maybe this shop would fix myvan because we really needed it and I could no longer pay for a rental I had already borrowed from my retirement fund to pay for the van being fixed and again for the excess that I had gone over in my savings just for rental cars. He couldn't take the vehicle for another week because he had a big influx due to Old National shop being evicted. So I waited (still in a rental for about 4 weeks now) finally he called to say it was ready.
Before I could get home good the light was on again!!!!! I thought maybe it had to reset itself because of the newness of the materials that were put on the van. NOT!!!!!! Called the shop owner; he thought I had a leak when I brought it in the first time.HUH? Anyway he agreed to "fix it" again. Again I rented a car too small for my family but I had to get what I could afford, took the car to Buford Hwy and waited for a phone call to say come and get it. Finally got the call but when I go to Buford I have to plan the day in advance ( I have an 8 to 5 Monday thru Friday job) Got my van and again hoping it was finally fixed. NOT THE CASE check engine on! gears not shifting correctly! WHAT IS THE PROBLEM. ALL I WANT IS MY VAN FIXED SO I CAN GET ON WITH MY LIFE!
Took it back and it was told to me a week later that it was my TCM and that they would not charge a whole lot for it. But I already paid for a TCM if not twice already. This shop states they can't tell if a TCM has ever been put in but he'll split the cost with me. WHAT!!!!
Then I call Customer Relations who claims to be the field office and she (Carol) was very rude to me when I told her that I have been trying to get my vehicle fixed for 6 months and it has still never been fixed I've paid large sums of money to have it fixed and now I'm being charged for something else. She says well did you authorize for it to be fixed ? Was I supposed to say no don't fix it and just give away over 2500.00 dollars to Cottman for nothing, a job poorly done, my vehicle still not in functioning order and I've probably driven it for 1 month and a half if that? She says well we don't know that we'll have to check on it and I'll just get back with you on it.(Sounding very frustrated with me I should be the one who's irrate.)
