Car would not go forward or in reverse

Cottman transmission picked up car, ran tests, said transmission had to be rebuilt. Said shell on Camero's are cheap and therefore was one of the problems, told they replaced with a harden steal shell.  Told transmission was rebuilt,  charged almost $1,800.

Picked car up, it was not shifting right, brought it back,  they took the car out and said it shifted fine.  Drove the car for a couple of more weeks,  took it back,  they said to leave it and they would run tests on it.

I was told all the tests came back ok was told the results were on the computer but was told I could not get a print out or even see the results on the computer.

Was told all the mechanics drove the car and they said nothing was wrong with the way it shifted. The exact words they said to me was "I am not saying you are making all this up but there is nothing wrong with the transmission.

Even though my car continued to shift hard and a rattle I continued to drive the car.  4 months after the warranty expired my car made a screeching noise and would not shift out of 1st and had no reverse.  Told Cottman,  was told they were sorry and would give me a discount if I brought it in.

My theory is "bitten once their fault, bitten twice my fault"

I had someone else repair,  found out the shell was broken and also a bolt was stripped when it was rebuilt by Cottman,  therfore the rattle I was hearing.  My car is now shifting wonderfully and has the pick up it had before the transmission was rebuilt by Cottman Transmission.

Do Not Go to Cottman Transmission EVER.

Response to Starr

AUTHOR: bill - (United States of America)

Starr,

I want to start by saying that Im sorry that you felt like you had a bad experience at our shop. We at Cottman Transmission in Independence Missouri work hard to give our customers the best service possible for a reasonable price. This shop has been located here at 23rd and Noland Road for over 40 years and I have personally been here for over 15 years providing my customers with excellent service. In fact, we get the majority of our work from word of mouth from friends, family, and other shops that know we will treat their customers right.

In response to your posting, we did do a full checkout on your camaro 6 months after the original rebuild because you said it didnt shift right at low speeds, and 2nd-3rd shift was hard. Looking at our notes, I see that we could not duplicate your complaint and that all of the scanner data was normal. If you would have asked me to see the scanner data on the computer I would have showed it to you. When we cannot find anything wrong with a transmission it is very hard to fix it. Its hard to know what really happened with your car a year and 4 months after we rebuilt it since we were not given the opportunity to check it out at that time. We are not perfect and sometimes we make mistakes and sometimes parts go bad, but we always work with our customers to make things right. We would have checked your camaro out for free if you would have brought it back in. Even though it was out of warranty by 4 months we probably would have gone ahead and fixed it for you at no charge if it turned out to be something in the transmission. Thats how we treat our customers. Since you already had someone else make repairs to your vehicle theres not much we can do about it now, but I really wish you would have brought your car back to us and at least given us the opportunity to make it right before taking it to someone else to fix.

If you have any additional questions don't hesitate to contact us and we will do what we can to help.

Thanks,
Bill
