After reading Iris' report from January about this company, now I know we will never see a replacement tabletop! Not that we really want a replacement of an item that shatters for no reason.

We purchased our patio set at Fry's Marketplace in Avondale, AZ. It was mid-February, and we wanted the set for a new house when we moved back to California March 1st. Being from California originally, we knew there weren't places like Fry's out here that we could find furniture for such low prices, so we bought the set and kept it in boxes until we arrived in our new home. Low prices indeed. I am such a firm believer in you get what you pay for too!

We put 4 of the swivel chairs together, two are still in a box in the garage. The table was easily put together by two people, just needed to fasten the legs in place. The glass was already inside the tabletop frame that neede to be added to the legs, no biggie. Again, easy enough for two people to complete, and all parts were included. (Which after reading other rip-off reports is surprising.)

The table has been in our backyard now for exactly ONE week. There is a small plant in a very light planter, and two tealight holders (not much weight on the table at all). Today, during lunch, we here this terrible noise from the backyard and the glass from the tabletop has completely SHATTERED! No one was near it, luckily! We weren't even outside! No big dogs, or low flying aircraft, aliens or objects falling from the sky are to blame. Just the glass itself shattered into a million pieces in the middle of our patio!

Thank God we weren't enjoying lunch outside in Sunny California with our FOUR year old. I can just imagine all of those glass pieces falling onto our legs. A replacement tabletop would have been the least of our worries.

After getting absolutely NOWHERE with the Fry's location where we purchased the patio set, my boyfriend was able to find the 800 number for the company who manufactured it. Thanks to the two chairs we were too lazy to finish putting together, and the box the reside in the garage! When Jon called Courtyard Creations and explained the problem to the customer service rep, she was not at all shocked. He said, "Oh, have you heard of this happening before?" Yes! We are not the first! Are you kidding me? Why are you still selling this stuff? Do I have to again imagine what would have happened if my daughter was outside playing right then? Ugh!

So she didn't even ask for a receipt or anything, which really tells you either how shotty their products are, or they never intend to send a new one. Either way, she told Jon it would take 3 months to get the replacement tabletop because they are backordered. Yeah, whatever.

DO NOT BUY FROM Courtyard Creations! You actually do get what you pay for.

My table top shattered as well...only the company is sending me a new one

AUTHOR: Nina - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, September 17, 2008

The story submitted by Kristine was one I stumbled across while waiting on hold for Courtyard Creations take my call.

I too had purchased the 6 piece patio set from target June of 2008, and two weeks later, during some mild wind, the entire table top shattered into 1/4th inch pieces all over the deck. I assumed that the wind blew the open umbrella at an angle which created enough force to break the glass, as it was the only thing I could think of, however, after what I have read, may not be the case.

It was a total mess, and I was so grateful that no one was hurt. To this day, I still have pieces of glass I can not get out of the cracks on my deck.

Due to a hectic schedule and summer vacations, I procrastinated taking this product back for a store refund, and my receipt expired this week. I called Target for their return policy, as well as to see if by any chance this product had been recalled due to these incidences.

Targets return policy would not allow me to return the set for a refund, therefor my only options were to either throw the entire thing away (which wouldn't break my heart) or call the manufacture for a replacement. I figured I needed to call them anyway to file a incident report, so why not ask?

I spoke with a woman named Rebecca who promptly informed me that they would be happy to send me a replacement glass top! I asked if the glass top they would be sending would be different material than the one that broke for no apparent reason. She said it would be the same. I thanked her for help, told her that I looked forward to having a functional patio set again, however would be nervous every time I used it. My new table top will arrive in 10-14 business days...

I sent a letter to Glenda, Rebeccas supervisor requesting that an incident report be made documenting my experience with the product, as well as a request to keep me informed if this product is modified or recalled.

I would encourage everyone who may have similar experiences contact the company and do the same, and if you are willing to keep this cheap and dangerous patio set as part of your outdoor furniture, be very careful. I know I will.

Not to sound rude but

AUTHOR: I Am The Law - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, July 31, 2008

Not to sound rude but, glass just doesn't spontaneously shatter. Something had to have happened. The store and or the manufacterer is probably going to say that, consider it customer fault, and not give you a refund. Again, I'm not trying to pick a fight, I'm just saying that that's probably what's going to happen.

Same thing happened to me....

AUTHOR: Kristen - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, July 16, 2008

I had the same thing happen to me just last month. I posted something on this website and had 3 people respond to me saying that they can't believe that I would say something like this happened and that I must have tampered with the table for it to shatter for no good reason and what's my problem. I also had people say that it's not up to the retailer to do anything about the table, that I should contact the mfg...which in my post I said that I did, if people could read I guess they would know that. But I just wanted you to know that I had the same thing happen to me and that I contacted the mfg and they have not even responded to me at all. I hope that you have told others that you know about this and that they listen and do not buy anything made by this company.
