I signed up for a medigap policy with this company on August 18th, and received an acceptance letter and temporary proof of insurance letter dated August 22nd. I got the actual card in the mail shortly afterward.

Part of the policy was 22 free trips to the doctor, so I  used them to go see a chiropractor that was in an area I couldn't get to by bus (I have no car).

I then received a letter form them dated September 24th, stating that I was being disenrolled from the program becase i no longer qualified for medicaid, but that the would continue to cover me until April 2015.

On october 8th, I came home to a phone mesage saying I was being disenrolled as of October 10th. I called my agent, and he came by on October 10th, and we fought it out with them on the phone for hours with no luck. They said I was never enrolled in the program in the first place, and that I would be responsible for the rides I took that the policy was supposed to pay for.

On October 15th- i received 2 letters from them; one said they had cancelled my enrollment (at my request) retroactive to September 1st, and I am now without any insurance, and the other said that Medicare had approved the cancellation. I never called Medicare. I never cancelled anything.

Also- my agent had said he was enrolling me in a similar policy (without the free rides), so that I would be covered until we straightened it all out, but when I called the office on October 15th- they said they had no record of my being enrolled in any other policy.

update on the insurance scam

AUTHOR: - ()

POSTED: Saturday, March 21, 2015

On the advice of another insurance agent, I filed a formal complaint with Medicare about the way Advantra treated me. They were very sympathetic, and said they would look into it.

A week later I got a call from the company, sympathizing with the situation, and saying they would straighten it out and get right back to me. A week after that- another phone call asking me what I expected to get out of it. I said I simply didn't want to have to pay for services that I used while I was supposed to be covered by their insurance. She said she'd "kick it up" to upper management and get right back to me.

Two months went by- nothing. I called again, and she said she would check it out and get right back to me, but her records showed that the investigation was marked "closed" the same day I had made my last phone call. I missed her return call 2 days later, and was unable to get ahold of her for 2 more days (her phone went straight to voice mail). The next day- I got a call from another woman saying that the insurance policy was never active. I told her I had a whole lot of paperwork to prove it certainly was active, but she wouldn't budge.

At this point, I'm wondering if Medicare is possibly complicit in all this, since the company managed to change a lot of my payment records (even in my social security report of services) and resend all the bills to Medicare- and they paid them. So- now I'm thinking maybe an investigative reporter might be interested in checking this company out, as I'm sure I'm not the only victim of this nonsense.
