I responded to an employment advertisement listed at Monster.com for Customer Service and Sales employment opportunities.  The listing stated paid training, no experience necessary.  I e-mailed my resume to their contact information on the advertisement.  The next day, I received a call from this company stating they wanted to schedule me to come in for an interview.  I scheduled the interview, came in and completed an employment application, and was then interviewed for the job.

The interviewer asked me about my past experience and explained the position he had available.  He stated it was for a Customer Service opening, the pay is an hourly base pay at $8.00 plus $4.00 for each appointment scheduled.  He said "I seemed very professional" and offered me the job to start on that Friday--which was their scheduled orientation/training for their new employee's.  He stated to me to "Come in Friday morning at 10am and see how you like it, and I will pay you for half the day--the 2nd half, that is!

I came in that Friday morning for what I thought was my first day on the job! Arrived at 10am, took notes, watched a training video about the company, was offered lunch with the other individuals whom I thought were ''also hired.'' It was not until 3pm--5 hours into this ''first day'' of work, that it was explained there were no ''jobs'' to begin for any of us; that is, unless we each first sell 5 product units privately to anyone we knew or could find!

There was no job to begin and no base pay. Only a very small commission for each unit sold, and we would not receive that until we actually ''found someone'' gullible enough to sign a contract from a complete stranger which required their social security number--by the way, nobody ever voluntarily gives that out to a person on the street!

When I explained that I was new to the state and area and knew no one, I was told that ''maybe this wasn't the best thing for me then.'' I agreed and got up to leave.  When I asked whether I would get paid for the day, I was refused on the basis that I did not stay and buy into this sleazy false presentation of an actual paid job! The trainer yelled in my face and told me to leave. Threatened me with a lawsuit if I disclosed any of this on the internet and left me feeling physically sick.

If you receive a call from this Company for employment, do not respond. Look elsewhere. This is a scheme to get innocent people to sell their product at no cost to the company--as an unpaid contractor/volunteer. In this economy, I'm not surprised, only saddened by what people are resorting to, in the effort to stay afloat (as a company.)
