I recently moved to Rhode Island. Before I made my move, I contacted my soon-to-be landlords, asking who they would recommend I get my cable/internet/phone from. They told me they bundled their services with Cox Communications. I called them at once to set up service. The agent I spoke with told me DEFINITELY my bill would amount to EXACTLY $162 per month for all my services. I was quite happy at that price.
Comes the day for installation, and they don't show up. They lied, saying my mother scheduled the wrong day. So, I couldn't contact anyone in any way, and I am physically disabled, without a car. Finally, 3 days late, the installer came. All went well there. It took quite awhile for me to clear my lines of telemarketers and people who were after the previous owner of these phone numbers (actually, they STILL aren't cleared and I've already had to change one of the phone numbers!)
Even though they were late, they charged me for a full month's service. The PROMISED $162 bill per month came out to be $258.53!!!!! Stunned, I called Cox. They said those were installation fees, something I was told nothing about. They said these extra fees, taxes, etc. would continue for 3 months. I demanded to speak to the original agent or someone who could help me. They assured me they would have the original agent call me, but he never did.
In the meantime, I am in an entirely new city, and I was NOT given any phone books! Therefore, I had to call information repeatedly to find anything I needed. Again, I was in NO WAY informed that there was a ONE DOLLAR PER USE CHARGE FOR INFORMATION!!!! Where I just came from, it was free of charge, so it isn't the 'norm'.
So, now they send me another bill, again early, stating that I still owe them the $258.53 PLUS this month's charges of $223.04, for a total of $481.57 for only 6 weeks!!!!! Aghast, I called again. Of course, I was on hold for quite a long time. When I finally reached a 'live' person, he was no more than a pre-programmed robot who repeated that all the charges were valid, and that I HAVE NO SAY WHATSOEVER IN THE MATTER!!!!!!! I know things are horrible in the world these days, with 95% of the planet living by stealing from others; I just didn't expect it to be so blatant by an 'established' company. All's I could get the adroid to do was submit yet another flacid request that the orginal signing agent contact me. I cannot believe the lies. And even without their appended 'installation fees', taxes, etc., they now tell me my basic (basic? I signed up for a full package that covered ALL calls, both national and international, TV, two phones and internet) actually starts at $173.00 per month!!!!!!
PLEASE AVOID THIS COMPANY LIKE THE PLAGUE FOR YOUR OWN GOOD! THEY FEEL ENTITLED TO ARBITRARILY STEAL FROM THEIR CUSTOMERS WITHOUT WORKiNG ON RESOLUTION OR COMPROMISE AT ALL. YOU WILL BE ENTIRELY AT THEIR MERCY.

Surrender to the Beast

AUTHOR: Daygirl - (United States of America)

POSTED: Saturday, February 04, 2012

I too have Cox Bundle and I too despise Cox and their deceptive practices.

What are all their misc charges? The Universal Fund? The School Fund? This that? They are one of the worst Corporations going. If you are ever late watchout because the money it will cost you to catch up will dig a big black hole in your pocket. That happened to me and when I sent them the balance I owed it was never enough!

Their service reps are the worst as they are trained to talk in this bizzare circular logic that no one can make sense of. It's awful, I dont know how they can work there. They shut my cable off for being $20 behind once, seriously. and the woman said the computer doesnt recognize whether it's $5 or $500...

Their commericals are so manipulative, trying to put a human face on Cox by showing somne kid copoycatting the service tech...come on!

The worst is trying to find out what the extra charges are for. What you thought you'd be paying $109 a month for turns out to be $149 or $159. they must have a BIG lobby in Washington that allows them to operate like this. They want to charge me $5 to change my last name becuase I was married. No way..they're not getting..they will never get it.

In the end, even with all the fighting I've had with Cox, some strage reason I still subscribe...I've heard Fios is awful too. I guess the devil I know is better than the devil I dont.

I denounce Cox, their business practices and policies, and their CEO..Someday we will win and you will stop ripping us off. Until then you can only surrender to this beast, or...go crazy

Cox has a lot of little tricks like that. I wasn't cancelling the service. My story is long and laborious. I was paying a bill by phone/bank draft, their preferred method, or so they say on their website. They cut the phone call off before giving me a confirmation number. I called back. They told me the balance was zero. Then, about 9 days later, they turned off the phone. I called back and talked with a representative. He told me there'd be no problems and I paid them. A month later, a charge of about $248 showed up which they called an "adjustment." The amount changed on subsequent bills, but when it went 90 days they disconnected the service, seized my deposits and put the balance out for collection.

They did other stuff to me. I'm waiting for my credit report to arrive. If they put a hit on it, I'll post my whole complaint letter to the corporation commission. It's a riot! It's hard to believe corporate policy can be so childish. These guys think people won't find out, and meanwhile they can improve their financial statement. A lot of people will just pay rather than go to the trouble of fighting with them and getting new service.

Cox is in trouble with the FCC, as are some other cable companies. Talk about a sector that could use a little competition! There is a technology that lets you get internet service through your electric supply line with more speed and bandwidth than cable, but our corporation commission won't let the electric company offer it. They're all so dirty it'd be funny if it weren't so sad.

Cox is mistaken if they think what they did with my account will not see the light of day. After I make a few posts and they hit the search engines, people will be able to read about what grubby animals they are.

Cox bills

AUTHOR: Robin - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, December 31, 2008

Cox bills you for a month in advanced. They always have and that's their little inside trick. So you will always be a month behind unless you pay the full amount from your first bill. I would never go back to Cox.

I've been fighting with Cox Communications for nine months.

Cox added an extra charge to my bill of what is now more than $280 they called an "adjustment" that they couldn't explain and wouldn't remove. I refused to pay it and asked for a review. I got no review, and when the charge went 90 days past due, they cancelled my service, seized my deposits and put the balance out for collection. The collection agency has been fairly brutal. I'm in the process of checking my credit report. If they've put a hit on it, as they promised, I'll write my own complaint. This problem began in March. Now, it's December. I complained to the city of Edmond and the Oklahoma Corporation Commission. Neither of them acknowledged receipt of my complaint, nor did anything to help.

This has been the bloodiest battle I've ever had with a corporation over a disputed bill. The whole story is laughable, and I'd have written about it sooner except I expected to resolve it. Cox has no intention of resolving it and has kept the fight going. The complainant is right. If you have many thousands of dollars a year to spend on these services, and don't care about money, you won't mind Cox. Most of us have to be more careful what we spend. I certainly do.
