Craftmatic called my home, told me I had won a $500 shopping spree, all I need do was listen to their salespitch which would take approx. 1 hour.

The salesperson brings gifts; dollar store picture frames and chit chats awhile to build rapport. A video of how the bed is suppose to work is shown, a discussion/lecture is given on how important sleep is and then examples of how their beds can greatly enhance one's sleeping comfort are listed; primarily due to the various positions of their beds and quality mattresses.

Then a catalogue with various sizes of beds without any price listings is presented with speacial features noted. Prices for each are not written down, they are memorized making it easier to use the "price drop" tactic. Only I was too stupid and trusting by this time to even think someone would do that. I also fell for the "deal of the day", which was if I puchased this bed today, I would save a certain amount. If I paid cash today, another substantial amount would be saved.

I was purchasing this bed for my 77yr. old mother who had broken her leg and tore her shoulder up, requiring major surgery on both. I made it very clear to the salesperson she was in the hospital, I had no idea when she would be released and she would need to check the bed out. I was assured she would have "Full Right of Inspection" when she got home. To me, this was a guarantee that if the bed did not work for her needs, it went back.

Once home, my mother tried the bed for 3 nights, that is all she could take of it. With the head raised all the way up, she slid out over the end. With the head up and legs raised, she was wedged into a V, the legs do not bend as demonstrated in the video. This was the main reason I decided on this type of bed.

I called the company and they were very rude. I told them the bed did not work and I needed to return it. I was told it would take time to break it in. This was not mentioned during the salespitch. I asked about the FRof I and was told it ended when the bed was delivered. Once the bed is delivered, you have no options to return it unless its done right then. I was told they could send a different insert to make my mother more comfortable.

I then wrote the company, explaining again what the major problem with the bed was and asked to return it and get my money back. This is not an option, I signed a purchase agreement. But the bed does not work as demonstrated. I paid $5,300 for a product that does not work correctly.

Not only did I pay way more than what this bed is worth, I was mislead on the financing. I was told I would be financed through one company at 18% interest. Then I get a statement from a different company, HC Processing which is charging 21% interest. I did not sign anything with this company.

I called the company again, it didn't matter what the salesperon told me about the FRof I, I signed a contract. As far as the bed not working right, I was told then it would take 2 months to break it in. I may be stupid when it comes to being taken by inhome salespeople but I would never expect my mother who was in the hospital 4 months with severe injuries, to try to break a bed in so it would eventually make her comfortable.

As far as the $500 shopping spree goes, when I asked the salesperson about it after the salespitch, I was informed I would have to fill out a 30 day sleep study then I would get it in the mail. I received a certificate to a website with nothing more than more dollar store items. Once couldn't even spend $500 on what is offered there.

Since this, I have searched on the internet and found where several states have filed class action suits against Craftmatic because of their sales tactics which break consumer protection laws. I would like to find someone who is willing to help do this. This company should not be allowed in anyone's home at any time, they are theives.

Craftmatic Adjustable bed

AUTHOR: pnwfemale - (United States of America)

POSTED: Saturday, June 12, 2010

In early 2003, I had signed up for an in-home demonstration of Craftmatic beds. I watched a video that the salesman had with him. The people in the video claimed that when they got their Craftmatic beds, they got the best sleep in years. The salesman failed to inform me of the various policies associated with purchasing a Craftmatic adjustable bed. I thought the bed would be comfortable and that I would get the best sleep I've had in years just as the people in the video. I've not been able to get a decent night's sleep since I've had this bed. I do sleep; but, it's usually from sheer exhaustion or from taking medications. Every morning, after I began using this bed, I would wake up in a lot of pain.

There was so much that I had to find out on my own. I had deep regrets regarding the purchase of the bed. The last time I contacted Craftmatic was on March 12, 2003.

The girl I spoke with said she would have to review my file and see what can be done for me. That's been said to me before. A week after the bed was first delivered, I contacted Craftmatic with my complaints and they sent out a new mattress. That did not help make the bed any more comfortable. I felt as though Craftmatic was giving me the run-around, if not ignoring me completely.

I do feel that the video that was shown to me was misleading.  After the fact, I realized that those so called Craftmatic Adjustable bed users could have been actors paid to look like satisfied customers.  I believe  that the salesman was not quite professional or ethical in the way he presented the Craftmatic beds.

I had asked Craftmatic to come and get the bed on more than one occasion.  Even when they turned the account over to a finance company, I told that company that they could come and get the bed.  I had filed complaints about this company with the BBB in the company's home state and with the FTC and the state attorney general's (AG) office here in WA.  I got a reply from the state AG indicating that the company was under investigation.  But, that is as much as I've heard.
