AF S/sgt

AUTHOR: Joseph Brown - (USA)

Please don't fall for this scam. This guy is more than likely not in the AF(I'm sure he'd be checking out the Grey Bar Hotel by now). Also he more than likely has another LEGAL name, too. There was another report here some time back from a woman AF S/sgt in the "sand box" trying to pull the same scam. Why they choose the rank of S/sgt(I was one) in the AF, I'll never know.

Typical Nigerian / Check Scam

AUTHOR: Cheri - (U.S.A.)

I used to work at an online vehicle selling website and i've seen this same scam pop up for years now. Remember if it sounds too good to be true it is. What tipped me off that it's the typical nigerian / check scam:

1. Seller claimed it was an "emergency" that he had to sell it. Yes it's true the seller could be trying to sell for an emergency but this is the first red flag to look for.

2. The biggest RED FLAG is that they will ship it to you!  No legitimate seller will take care of "shipping costs" for you. (Airforce or not!)

3. Poor grammar usage is also a huge RED FLAG in this situation. The original post may have looked "OK" since it was probably copied from someone else's description. The reply looks like a typical Nigerian scam reply. This should have tripped you to ask more questions.

4. Offer to have a local vehicle inspector take a look at the vehicle for you!  There are places that have inspectors nation-wide including Alaska. If the seller rejects this idea it's definately as scam! That means the vehicle doesn't even exist. Anyone willing to sell a legitimate vehicle will not be offended to the idea of a licensed inspector looking at the vehicle.

5. Any transactions involving cashiers checks (or refunding parts of cashiers checks) should be avoided at all costs!  Cashiers checks can be faked or linked to an account with no money on it. A typical use of this scam is where the seller will send YOU a cashiers check for the cost of the shipping and ask you to refund part of the money for some reason or another - that cashiers check may be accepted by your bank but after a few weeks the bank will try to take back their money one way or another!

Consider this a learning experience dude! If you can't see the vehicle in person yourself, please have a licensed inspector check it for you! If you get any of the red flags above, ASK MORE QUESTIONS!
