On 02/29/2012 I took my 2006 Ford F150 in for a tune up and oil change, the tune up consisted of removing 8 spark plugs and installing 8 new plugs. The plugs cost $153.28, they then charged $400.00 to remove and instal 8 plugs.
I questioned the cost Crain Fords advisor stated $200.00 was charged extra to remove 4 plugs that the dealerships tech broke, I asked why the customer had to pay for the Incompetency of the tech
the advisor said it was not the incompetency of the tech Ford had 2 piece plugs and sometimes the broke getting them out when that happens they charge $50.00 extra for each one they break I then asked why the customer had to pay for Fords design error, I had heard of other people having to pay extra for broke plugs but didn't beleive it till it happened to me.
Contacted Ford Motor Co, they stated they checked and had no reports of a problem with the plugs, and they could not help me.  Fords better Idea
Now the oil change was $36.49 and then an enviromental charge of $41.63 to dispose of the oil and filter
Total for Tune Up and oil change  $685.07
looks like to me if everybody is having problems with removing the 2 piece plugs it is an design error on Fords part and the customer should not have to pay for Fords mistake.

I hadn't looked at your link.I had researched this in the past and Ford was not thinking when they engineered this.

This IS a known problem with Fords...

AUTHOR: Ken - (USA)

POSTED: Saturday, March 17, 2012

It happens often when plugs are removed.Perhaps, if you weren't, they should have advised you of this probability.
It's NOT a failing on the dealers part...Ford's engineers need to take the blame for this screw up.

Taking the DEALER to court is unlikely to benefit you in any way.

Sorry you had to experience this first hand.

Take the dealer to court

Take these incompetent liars to small claims court to get your over charge back.

See this news story:

This is a known and acknowledged flaw in the spark plug design, BUT, and this is a monstrously HUGE BUT, Ford has provided the tools to all dealers, if they care to know what they're doing, to de4al with this.

So YES, it IS mechanic incompetence, because Ford provides what they need to do it right.

Please keep in mind that this is an issue with Ford parts rather than with the Crain Ford Chenal store. If it's a problem with Ford manufactured parts, then it could have happened at any qualified Ford dealer service department. It's good to hear he took up this issue with Ford Motor Co. since it sounds like this is probably a widespread problem with Ford spark plugs.
