I initially contacted Joe Crawford in June after finding his listing on Craigs List. I had Mr. Crawford come to my house and look at my boat as it needed mechanical and dry rot repairs to the floor. After Mr. Crawford looked at my boat, he told me that it would not be a problem to fix and preferred to wait til September/ October as he was pretty busy at the time.

I contacted Mr. Crawford the week of September 10th, letting him know that I wanted to leave my boat with him for repairs on September 17th as I would be out of town on vacation for two weeks and felt that would be a good time for him to work on it. Mr. Crawford called me back and said that would be fine.

On Wednesday September 17th I Google’d Crawford Boat works so I could get the address. In doing so, I came across two very negative reviews on Rip Off Report regarding Mr. Crawford and his "Business." I also saw that he had a rating with the BBB of a "D."

Against my better judgment, mostly due to a lack of time and the convenient location, I took my boat to his shop.  Upon arriving I found Mr. Crawford standing next to his van with one of his shop doors open. It was apparent that he nor anyone else was working at the time.

I went over what work needed to be done, and also addressed the negative reviews online along with the BBB. Mr. Crawford went on and on about how the reviews were not accurate and not a true portrayal of what had actually happened. In the reviews there were complaints of over spray on peoples boats, along with damage and crappy repair jobs.

I was very adamant with Mr. Crawford that I did not want to end up down that road with him and expected him to hold to his word, in which he assured me over and over again that he would. Mr. Crawford told me that he would have all the repairs done on my boat in two weeks (10-01-2014).

Mr. Crawford also said he required a deposit of half the estimated cost for repairs. In this case, he quoted me $400-$500 for the repairs. Already being weary based off all the complaints against him, I figured I could always dispute the charge with my bank if he jerked me around. Well, lone behold this fly by night crook didn’t take any kind of cards, he only took cash. Only having $100 cash on me, Mr. Crawford agreed that would work.

I made it very clear to Mr. Crawford that I did not want my boat left out in the rain and that I would call him in a week to check on the progress of things. I called Mr. Crawford as I told him I would on 09-24-14 and again on 09-25 before reaching him. At that time, Mr. Crawford told me that my boat was coming along great and that he found the repairs needed for the floor were minor after pulling the carpet up.

I decided to go and check on the progress of my boat after returning from my vacation on Tuesday 09-30-14 (One day prior to when my boat was suppose to be finished.) Upon arriving at the shop, I found my boat sitting outside uncovered. I had made it very clear to Mr. Crawford when dropping my boat off that I did not want it left out in the rain, in which he assured me he would put in his shop the next morning after I dropped it off.

I found the entire inside of my boat soaked with water and parked exactly where I had parked it two weeks prior. I had also given Mr. Crawford a new oil filter that he had placed in the boat. I found the oil filter box was saturated, and the bottom of the brand new filter had rust starting  on it. I also found that the carpet had been pulled up exposing the damaged areas, and that nothing else had been done.

As no one was around, I called Mr. Crawford three times before he answered his phone. I told him that I was just calling to check on the status of my boat repairs. Mr. Crawford told me that my boat would be ready the next morning and that he just had to glue the carpet back down. I asked him if the floor had been repaired and he told me that it had. What Mr. Crawford did not know was that I was standing at my boat while talking to him.

At that time I told Mr. Crawford that I was standing at my boat, and in fact, nothing had been done and that he was flat out lying to me. After going back and forth with Mr. Crawford about how he was a crook and a liar, he told me that he didn’t intentionally lie to me and started telling me how someone else was suppose to have done the work.

I told Mr. Crawford that I was taking my boat and he needed to come to the shop and give me my money back. Mr. Crawford told me to go ahead and take my boat, and further told me that if I wanted my money I could come to his house to get it.

After hooking up my boat, I walked over to the house located about 50’ from the dinky shop and spoke with the guy there. He told me that he rented the house and pasture, and had nothing to do with the boat shop. He told me that the owner of the property rented the shop out to Mr. Crawford for his business. The guy further told me that this was a weekly occurrence that he had someone knocking on his door pissed off about the quality of work, or lack of work, and were trying to find Mr. Crawford. I pointed out my boat and asked him if he had seen it moved over the past two weeks as Mr. Crawford claimed he had it stored in the shop out of the rain and that it had been moved outside that morning. The guy told me that my boat hadn’t moved. He also told me that this operation consisted of Mr. Crawford and his wife, and that Mr. Crawford didn’t have any employees as he likes to tell people.

This again was another lie by Mr. Crawford as I remembered him having told me when I dropped my boat off that he had six employees working for him. I then went to Mr. Crawford’s house which was located on Hwy 213 just south of Hwy 211 in Molalla. Upon arriving Mr. Crawford came out of the house holding $105 cash.

I started calling Mr. Crawford out on all his lies and BS. When I asked him how many employees he had working for him, he looked puzzled and told me two. I told him that he must lie too much as he didn’t remember telling me two weeks prior that he had six employees working for him. I then asked him if he had lost four employees over the course of two weeks. He responded by telling my he had lost eight employees. I further called him out on the fact that my boat had not been touch and left out in the rain for two weeks. Mr. Crawford tried to justify why nothing had been done and further told me that the guy who lived on the property was a liar. Mr. Crawford finally replied, "We dropped the ball" and turned around and walked in his house.

In the end, I got my money back and my boat back. After getting my boat home I found over spray all over the boat along with two areas on the back of the boat where someone had hit it with what looked like gray gel coating. My key would not turn in the ignition as it was rusted from having been left out in the rain. I have yet to have the time to look at what damage was done to my CB and depth finder after being left out in the rain as well

Needless to say, Mr. Crawford is a liar, a scam artist and a crook. He flat out lies to people and takes advantage of them. Every negative review I had read about him proved to be true. I also found it funny that he had made the following posting on his Facebook page.

We have been getting some input on our page name, and are in the process of rebranding this page to make it easier for people to find. The new name will be "C'nook marine and fiberglass. That will better link the name to the web address. Also since we are doing more than just boat work we want to highlight our other fiberglass work. Thank you to all for your continued support.

I find it funny that a "Reputable" business that has been around for many years would feel the need to change their name. Oh wait, I guess someone who had ran their name and business through the dirt while doing shoty work and screwing people over would not want to be associated with all the negative reviews and complaints against them.

As others have said, beware and don’t go down the same road we have. This guy has no place running a so called "Business" as he calls it. And if you do, fully expect to be lied to on a regular basis and taken advantage of.

You're a victim of your own BS?

AUTHOR: Jeff - ()

So anyone can get on the computer and say anything they want with no accountability? I found it funny that in reading your response, at no point in time did you deny or try to account for any of the lies I caught you in. Sometimes you have to follow your better judgment and turn down work? Funny that you took my money up front, and when I called you a week later to check in as I told you I would, you told me things were moving right along.

I would also agree with your statement that I didn’t get treated better than any of your other clients, as you treat them all like crap. I chose to pick up my property after you let it sit out in the rain for two weeks, and then told me a day before it was suppose to be done that all the work was completed with the exception of gluing down the carpet, not knowing that I was standing at my boat at the time. But as you told me, you simply "Dropped the ball."

You paid your mechanic $80 for what? Nothing was done. I just got done paying someone today to do all the mechanical work you were suppose to take care of. You came out on the negative side of the encounter? Really? It wasn’t my boat you left out in the rain for two weeks, it wasn’t my boat that you got overspray all over, it wasn’t my boat that you got your gel coat or paint on, it wasn’t my ignition that wouldn’t work after I got it home as it was rusted from being left out in the rain, it wasn’t my time that you wasted, it wasn’t me that had to drive to your house to get my money back as you refused to come to your shop. My apologies that you are a victim in this encounter.

My loss that you can’t understand? How about my wasted time? How about all the things I listed above that I had to fix? How about that fact that you’re a scum bag? A little clearer now? You stay busy because you do work right? How about all the complaints on Rip Off Report, The better business bureau, your own facebook page? I have yet to find one positive review about you. It’s funny you don’t deny nor address all of the issues I listed, but repeatedly encourage people to come out and see your work for themselves?

I’d be embarrassed to have people come out to your rented pole barn that’s surrounded with junky boats and camp trailers. But once again, you’re a victim of people dumping their crap on you. You have a lawyer? I bet not. If so, please provide me with their contact information. If I can call your "Lawyer" and verify that they suggested you change your business name I will delete every bad review I have posted about you. However, we both know that you don’t have a lawyer, you can’t afford one. This is just another lie to make yourself feel like a big legitimate business and not the s**t show of an operation you are.

You are registered with the Coast Guard? Any idiot with time and application money can be. I think they need to be made aware of your shady ways as well. You are a disgrace to man kind and don’t deserve to live in this country where you can take advantage of good hard working people. But again, you’re the victim…………….of your own BS. When you respond telling everyone to come check out your work, do it yourself this time, don’t have your wife do it for you.

Unfortunatly in this day, and age anyone can get on the internet, and say anything they want without any accountability at all. Sometimes I have to follow my better judgment, and turn down work for people who are obviously going to be a problem from the start. I am always happy to have folks out to see us, and what we do. Then you can make an informed choice, and we are confident you'll see past what I feel is obviously a person who did'nt get treated better than our other clients, and chose to pick up their property. No hard feelings on my part. As a matter of fact I paid the mechanics $80.00 fee to do the diagnostics, and refunded the customers deposit in full. So it was only me that came out on the negative side of our encounter.  I am at a loss for what he believes he lost. Come out, and take a look at our work, and decide. We stay busy year around because we do the work right. I am always happy to give references. As for a name change. As we are incorporating it was our lawyers idea to develop a name that better incorporated our product brand, as well as our services. Making it much easier for people interested in our products to find us. Look at our social media sites, and you will find that the corporation name is spot on. We are registered with the Coast Guard as a boat manufacturer, and if we can't do our repair work to the standards we build our boats we wont take it on. I'm sure everyone realizes that a job not done right, no matter if it takes longer is a job that will fail. To all. Enjoy your time in the outdoors, but be safe. Thank you for reading, and give us a call.
