I had moved back in December 05 and had my cable account transferred to the new address. I received a bill from Comcast on January 11, 06 with a zero balance. Then on February 11th, I received another one with a balance. I contacted Comcast and found out it was an honest error on their part (it was a balance due from the "old" account that was entered incorrectly). So I went ahead and paid the balance, it wasn't due until March 4th.

Dated the SAME DAY as the cable statement, is a letter from Credit Collection Services for the same amount. I TRIED to explain to them, it was an error and it has been taken care of with Comcast. Payment had been sent to Comcast. The person I talked to stated that I would have to contact Comast to tell them to contact them to tell them that the payment was received. I told the person I shouldn't have to do their job, that I had already taken care of the bill and that was it. The person told me they would keep contacting me until they got the money. I told them "good luck" they don't have my phone number!

I received another "statement" from them on 2/27/06 with the legal mumbo jumbo of "this is an attempt to collect a debt" blah blah blah. I ignored it.

Today is 3/27/06, I got ANOTHER ONE! This time tho' it doesn't have an address or phone number at the top of the "statement" AND it looks like a photo copy! But I do have the old ones with the number.

I contacted Comcast again, and they told me that the account is a zero balance. They are sending me a zero balance statement. The Comcast rep asked me if there was a fax number that they could send the zero balance statement to the "collection agency", of course there isn't one.

Called the "collection agency". On hold forever having to listen to god awful 80's music! Hung up after 18 minutes.

I DARE them to put something on my credit report.

update

AUTHOR: Tracey - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, April 28, 2006

OH BOY! I was putting in another company and decided to "update" this one.

I called CCS to see if they "got the fax" that Comcast sent them. OF COURSE NOT! So I told Beth "fine, I will send you the final statement I have from Comcast." She asked me how I paid for it, (a check), she wanted me to send them a front and back copy of the check! I don't think so! I told her I will send her the zero balance statement I received!

They think I fell off the turnip truck yesterday??????

Some more info...

I got this from another site I frequent:

re:
Agency Details

Credit Collection Service
2 Wells Ave.
Newton, Massachusetts 02459
Web Address: NONE!

"Bud Says...aka/ Credit Collection Services (CCS)/Credit Intl./Audit Associates Credit Control Services, Inc.
With that many names you may not be surprised to learn that they collect for insurance companies. My problem with CCS is they fail miserably at responding to consumer complaints. We all know that insurance companies are have a low tolerance for paperwork, so a lot of information that may be incorrect is sent to collections.
If you have a problem with CCS, contact their attorney; Michael S. Kraft to see if he can resolve it........budhibbs.com"

These geniuses are dunning me for the huge sum of $29, supposedly collecting for Allstate. Problem is: Allstate sent me a $58 REFUND check back in December, as I had overpaid before I cancelled. They ring my cell phone and home phone incessantly. When I explained to the brain trust rep that Allstate sent me money back for overpayment, she blasted into me, "well, prove it. You have a copy of the check, prove it." Then she starts screaming "they made a mistake by giving you anything. Collection efforts are just beginning!", as she slammed the phone down.

Needless to say, their "cease comm" letter is on it's way.

These smarties...

I called them because they have failed to respond to my requests for validation per Texas State Law. The rep tells me- this account is old and has been purged- we don't have any information on it- that is why we have nto responded.

Demanded they remove the TL and was transferred to a supervisor- who told me "We only follow federal law, not state laws. Per federal law, because you did not request validation within the first thirty days after our original contact- we don't have to validate anything".

They went on to tell me that if I would fax them a copy of the Texas Finance Code, they would have someone from their legal department review it..

Do you have an address or phone number for their attorney you listed on the front page?

Agency Comments
I had problems with my cable service at my old address just before I moved and I demanded credits from Comcast cable on my final bill once I moved out of the area. I never received the credits and my final bill was wrong. I went back and fourth with them before they turned my account over to CCS. I've sent three letters to CCS requesting a verification of the debt before I'd pay. They never responded until a month and half later claiming they had just received my letters and it was outside the 30 days and demanded payment. The collector by the name of Paul said I know I owe the money so I should pay it and stop giving them the run around. He very rude and abusive all this over a cable bill of less then 200.00 that over almost 50.00 incorrect per credits I should received for service I didn't get. My final bill from the cable company is incorrect by almost 50.00 and they're demanding the entire bill while refusing to give me any kind of verification of the final month of service.

I hope this gives you some more insight on who you are dealing with and how to handle them.

Good luck!

No fax number?????

AUTHOR: Tracey - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, March 27, 2006

I had to go back to work, so I had to finish this in the PM...

After being on hold for 18 minutes (this being done by entering the file number in for a "rep") I decided this afternoon to play dumb and act like I had a rotary dial phone and got a "rep" in less than a minute!

Anyway, when the rep got on the phone, she asked for my name, address, and phone number (yeah right) so I told her I would give her the file number. Gave it to her, and then told her that I needed their fax number so Comcast could send them a fax showing the account was already paid. This yahoo told me they didn't HAVE a fax! "We only deal through the mail". (First collection agency I have found that actually does that!) Well, the jokes on them. I did a little more research and found their listing under the ACA (Association of Credit and Collection Professionals), and they DO have a fax, and I did call Comcast back with that number!

Let's see what they try to do next!
