Yet another entry in the saga against this scandulous, fraudulant company. On 1/27/06 I found a charge for the infamous $159.95 for a Acclaim Visa Card. I had been on-line applying for a short-term cash loan the night before.

Here's what happens. You begin filling out an application for the advance and as you proceed to the end of the application and click submit an additional page pops up. This page contains all of your previously entered info. The site tricks you into thinking that this page is part of the loan application but it's not. If you scroll all the way to the bottom of the page the is a very small selection that states "no thanks, proceed with loan".

I discovered this after the fact as I tried to retrace my steps. I may have filled out this application for the Acclaim Visa Card without even knowing that I did. Here is the exact e-mail conversation that I am in the process of having with a representative named Melissa from EDP reporting:

The product that was purchased online was a prepaid debit card.

Hi Melissa,

What product is this charge for?

Good Afternoon,
We understand this may not be a pleasant time for you. The only way for you to have a charge is that someone completed, authorized and submitted the online application for the product we support.

We take fraud very seriously and if someone is using your name and/or personal information to make online purchases for products we support, we will cooperate completely with all law enforcement agencies in the pursuit of fraud. We have found the proof of authorization for the purchase of the prepaid debit card with the IP address of the computer it was submitted from, dated and time stamped. The IP address can be traced to the specific computer and location it was submitted from.

If you believe your account was fraudulently charged for the purchase price of one of the products we support, we will make every effort to aid in a resolution. We will mail you or fax you a fraud form which you can take with you when you report to your local police. Please fax the form back at 818-487-0634 or mail the form with contact info to your local Police Dept. and officers contact information. We will turn over the application as proof of the authorization for their full investigation.

If the police determine it to be fraud we will refund the full amount in form of a check after we confirm money was received and send it to the police. We can't advise you on what to do but if this in fact is fraud, we will cooperate to help pursue and apprehend the criminals. We want to assist and are here for any questions the officer may have.

THERE IS ONLY 1 WAY FOR A CHARGE TO HAPPEN WE HAVE THE PROOF OF AUTHORIZATION FOR PREPAID DEBIT CARD: CHRISTOPHER ordered online. The application was submitted fully authorized for the charge & agreed to the terms & conditions. The application is divided into 2 separate screens. The companies we support are regulated, monitored & compliant, the app is purposely 2 screens (not just 1 or 1 button) to discourage an applicant that doesn't agree & authorize the one time fee, terms & conditions from submitting. Requiring each screen to be completed, authorized & agreed to by the applicant.

You can not go to the next screen before acknowledging you've read the terms & conditions which state the one time fee would come out of the bank account entered. Before filling anything out the first screen gives all the information about the prepaid card allowing the customer to make an educated decision whether or not to apply for the prepaid card 2 part application. As a support center we recommend to CHRIS OF YONKERS NY before acknowledging having read terms & conditions take the time to actually read them & before entering personal info like banking info to understand what fee is being authored.

Our websites are very clear that $159.95 will be deducted from the consumer bank account. This statement is not buried in a page long Terms and Conditions. Our Websites states, in very simple terms, that this is NOT a Credit Card but a Debit Card. Customers can load their own funds onto the debit cards and use them wherever Visa Mastercard is accepted. All the language and set up on our websites have been approved by Visa and Mastercard, which have very stringent security parameters.
