I was contacted by one of these representatives and was threatened to loose my house, my car, my pets, my job and even my life if I did not pay this debt immediately. I asked for 100% proof this bedt was mine, such as a signed contract, date of charges on the credit card, and signatures for the charges. I was told the company did have any of that and that I was just stalling for more time. I asked to speak to a supervisor and was told he was the supervisor. I told him I had never had a credit card from Capital One and he called me a liar. Now these people are calling my friends, neighbors, even poeple I don't even know in the town I live in telling them about my debt and asking them to contact me and PLEAD with me to pay the debt so that they can stop getting these harrassing calls. My friends were told by Creditors Exchange that they got the call because we were dead beat neighbors. My life has been threatened, my dog (who was barking in the background) was threatened and so were my children. This has to be illegal, and it has to be stopped. But how????

#2 Consumer Suggestion

Anon, you may have caused yourself a big problem by paying.

AUTHOR: Steve - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, November 20, 2006

Anon,

By making a payment you have legally validated the debt. Now they can sue you and possibly get a garnishment, or sieze property where, before, most likely they could not have.

This is the game they play, and unless you are very agressive, you will lose when dealing with any debt collector.

It is illegal for any collector to threaten or intimidate you in any way. You cannot be arrested for any debt. And you cannot lose your house, car or anything else to any third party debt collector, unless it was specifically used as collateral on the debt.

Debt collectors are absolutely powerless and can do absolutely nothing to you. This is why they use threats and intimidation as a way to manipulate you into doing something you shouldn't. Think about this in perspective. If there was really something they could do, why would they need to talk to you? They wouldn't.

FYI..One letter can stop the calls. Another letter can stop them cold in the collections process. Go to FTC.gov and read the FDCPA.

NEVER speak to any debt collector on the phone. And NEVER give ANY collector your banking info or a payment of any kind, or agreement to pay. Always ignore them and make them sue you. Most won't.

Read some of the other debt collection and collection agency threads on this site to get an idea of what you are dealing with here.

Good luck.

Creditors Interchange Harassing calls

AUTHOR: Anon - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, November 20, 2006

Hi I too have been threw and had my share of dumb moves as a young adult thinking I need everything. I do know that I have a debt.
However last year I was contacted by this company of Creditors Interchange and spoke with a very rude lady. She stated to me that my account needed to be addressed and threatened jail, and losing everything in my life. So I put on file 6 checks for what I think and know is a car payment.

Well after the 6 checks the lady called again being very rude and this time wanted 3 checks but wanted to increase the amount. As of 2 months ago. I have paid $2,700 and my account started at $5,000. Just 2 months ago. I was told my account was at $3,800.to me I have no idea were they went for math however its not $3,800. I also told the rude lady that I want a statement. I recieved a bill of how much was owed from me.

Well I recieved something but not what I asked for. I have always known a statement to be a summary of payments from start to recent. I then refused to answer my phone. And avoided them as much as I can and they left ongoing harrassing messages. And as well at my place of work and there is no way I can even call them or take a call for what I do for work, I barely have time to take a 30 minute break.

And one day when they tricked our receptionist to let them talk to me this lady yelled at me until I gave her a check number or anything else. And when I told her that I wanted a statement she said she couldn't give me one because the address she had wasn't valid. Well I advised to her that she was sending to an address that doesn't exsist.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated. I'm still young. And really have no more debts to figure out. However I don't want to give in any more to a company that can't give me a real statement.
Please help.
