Crestmark Apartments SimplyBetter Rentals Mgmt Lied to Me like my rental was still vacant while charging me rent after I moved and GA Power stated it was Occupied, Company Acted Illegally Per GA Law Lithia Springs, Georgia

I lived in Crestmark Apartments several years ago. I will never forget what happened to me while living there. I lived there for two years and had to break my lease due to a family emergency which required me to relocate out of state. I let the office know far ahead of time and they knew I would be moving BEFORE I moved. They had MONTHS to find another tenant for my apartment but chose not too.I had a ground floor apartment which I was told always rented very easily. It was in a preferred location as well.

I moved from Crestmark in October and per Georgia law if someone breaks their lease they are responsible for the monthly rent MINUS whatever discount they recieved "UNTIL" the unit is rented. This law MUST have been written by the Apartment Association. However, after I moved I was told to call back and assured that the Unit would be rented soon. I was told I had to KEEP paying my rent minus the discounts while they looked for another tenant. My rent without the discount was around $830.00 per month which I mailed back to Crestmark every month.

After 3 months went by without the unit being rented I began to grow suspicious. Crestmark kept telling me they were trying hard to find someone to rent the unit. Something told me to call Georgia Power. I called Georgia Power and inquired if there were utilities on at that Unit. Now it was customary for utilities to be turned on back in the apartments name, HOWEVER, a very nice woman told me when I called GA Power that the utilies had been transferred out of the apartments name TWO MONTHS PRIOR TO MY CALL!!!! and into a tenants name which of course they did not provide.

I was shocked to see that someone was living in the Unit all the while the apartment community was drawing rent from me for over two months!!! The office managers had all LIED every time I called which was about every week. It is ILLEGAL in the state of GA to draw DOUBLE RENT on a Unit.

I then called Crestmark's Corporate Office located in Colorado and spoke to the Regional Manager and he was shocked that I had found out and that the managers had resorted to such a dubious and underhanded tactic and refunded all of my money quickly and they sent me a letter stating my balance was satisfied and "Thanks for Renting".

This is being written as a WARNING to all who choose to rent at Crestmark and any apartment in GA that most leasing professionals don't have to take an "ethics" test to be hired. Many of these people can't be trusted.
