SEO Reputation Management at its best!

I have been a customer with Cross Country Bank for over a year. I got two months behind at one point, and they called to make payment arrangments with me to bring my account back to a current status.

I agreed to make $70.00 per month payments for three months which would bring me back under my credit limit, and clear the late fees. The payments were scheduled for the 25th of each month.

I made the payments as scheduled, but my balance kept going up. Shane Nef, the CEO, called me one night and informed me that the customer service rep who made the agreement with me told me to pay on the 25th of the month, but my due date for payment needed to be paid on the 15th, so I was assessed the late fees.

He told me that they would correct this problem, and my account would be back to currrent, and all I had to pay was the minimum due on my account of $35.00 per month to keep it in good standing, and no more late fees or over limit fees would be assessed.

Well it has been close to a year since that phone call, and since then, my account has jumped from $539.00 to $970.85. I have called, and and I have written to clear this up. They tried to tell me in a letter that I would need to pay $400.00 to get the late fees off of my account. They won't talk to me on the phone if I am not late.

I have more than paid off my debt with these people. I have asked to have this account canceled. I am still being assessed over-the-limit fees, fees, and more fees.

I am thinking about taking this case to a lawyer. If you have any suggestions, please feel free to email me.

Thank you.

#1 Consumer Suggestion

Cross Country Backs Off For Now. I'll give them six months if that long.

AUTHOR: Beverly - (U.S.A.)

After a year of harassment on my late mother's account. I wrote the FDIC and gave them the low down on Cross Country.

I got a letter two weeks ago saying that they will now Cease and Desist in all contacts. Cross Country said that they finally obtained the death certificate. My mother passed away January 2004 and I received a call on February 10, 2004 and the individual said that they got the death certificate.

Either Cross Country's left hand does not know what the right hand is doing or they thought that they would intimidate me into paying an account that I never had or owed.

But I will say this, Cross Country knows that they have messed with the wrong person.

I'll give them six months if that long.

Countrywide Back At It

AUTHOR: Steele - (U.S.A.)

I just started getting calls from these people 2 weeks ago. I don't even have a card or account with them, called them and told them that the person they were calling and asking for did not live here, and still they are calling me non-stop. I was told I could not speak with a supervisor because I did not have an account, but that my number would be removed from list. I've had 3 calls since telling them I had no idea who the person they were looking for was.

They are scummy people too, rude. I was kind of encouraged when I saw the note about the Attorney General on this ripoff report until I saw that it was dated 2002 so maybe countrywide is above the law, because they are back at it and I don't even have an account with them.

Relief May Be On The Way

News Release

Released By: Philip T. McLaughlin, Attorney General

Subject: Cross Country Bank and Applied Card Systems

Date: July 16, 2002

Release Time: Immediate

Attorney General McLaughlin announced today that the State of New Hampshire has filed suit in Merrimack County Superior Court against Cross Country Bank, Inc., and its affiliate, Applied Card Systems, Inc., both of Wilmington, Delaware, charging both with violations of the state's Fair Debt Collection Act and the Consumer Protection Act. The multiple-count complaint seeks a restraining order and civil penalties to be paid to the injured consumers and to the State.

According to Attorney General McLaughlin, Cross Country Bank, Inc. issues credit cards to consumers who are considered at high risk of default due to prior credit problems, or just because the consumer is of low income. When a card holder falls behind on his or her payments, Applied Card Systems acts as Cross Country Bank's collection agency. "We are alleging that its employees then use unfair, deceptive, or abusive methods to collect the debt. Among these abusive methods are numerous and repeated telephone calls daily to the consumer at home or at work, calls to the consumer's family, making threats of imprisonment for failure to pay, and more," McLaughlin said. "All these acts are illegal under New Hampshire law," McLaughlin added.

"New Hampshire has laws in place which protect citizens from abusive debt collection practices, and the Department of Justice intends to see that these laws are complied with," Attorney General McLaughlin stated. " If a consumer is considering applying for a new credit card, my advice is that he or she should first do some research into the business practices of the credit card issuer," McLaughlin said. "This can be done by calling the Better Business Bureau, the Consumer Protection and Antitrust Bureau of the Attorney General's Office, and by consulting the many resources available on the internet," McLaughlin stated.
