Cross Country Van Lines LLC

East Rutherford, NJ 07073

I have a complaint about the bad business of Cross Country Van Lines, LLC. Cross Country Van Lines was hired to move my belongings from Irving, TX to Jersey City, NJ.

On June 23, 2008 I contacted Ralph about the time in which my things would be picked up and was told on Wednesday or Thursday but WE (meaning Cross Country Van Lines) will contact you 24 hours in advance. On Tuesday, I call Ralph again was told Thursday would be my move date. On Wednesday, the drive calls to tell me that they are in the area. I was totally caught off guard being that Ralph told me that my move date would be Thursday June 26, 2008.

Before moving ANY of my things, I had to sign a form stating that all of items had arrived in New Jersey. I believe Cross Country Van Lines does this practice to ensure that customers will not have any defense in getting their items back or reimbursed for mistakes of Cross Country Van Lines, LLC.

On Thursday July 3, 2008 Cross Country Van Lines, came to my new residence. Before the workers would tough my things, I had to give them full payment in a form of a money order (the ONLY form of payment they accept). Again, I believe that practice is done to ensure customers have no way to control the situation and Cross Country Van Lines can treat customers like dirt. Towards the end, the movers call me out of my apartment to tell me that they cannot move my couch or box spring into my apartment.

Instead of trying again, as I asked the lead worker, John begins to shout at me in a nasty voice I'm not an idiot. At this time they move my box spring and couch onto the street. After pleading with them, they reluctantly moved my things inside the lobby of my building, not carrying about the fact that they blocked another tenant's door. There are 2 doors to my apartment. I'm under the impression that the workers are still bringing boxes up and putting my bed together. Then I hear a truck pull off.

Cross Country Van Lines, LLC left my apartment without asking if it looked like I had everything or telling me they were leaving all together. I immediately call the driver, John to ask him to turn around because SEVERAL of my items are missing. Then, I call Cross Country Van Lines customer service and speak to Mike de Benedetto and ask him to call the driver. Mike obviously stalls while keeping on the phone for 15-20minswith random and unnecessary questions. At the end of conversation, Mike de Benedetto STILL doesn't call the driver to return my things.

To get my couch and box spring into my apartment, I had to call another moving company who came out and move my things for $590. If Cross Country Van Lines is a professional moving company, they should have mentioned that they are incapable of handling jobs in downtown areas. The previous tenant and my current 2nd floor neighbor have couches and queen size beds . At the very least, Cross Country Van Lines should have provided with the information of another capable moving company.

As it stands, Cross Country Van Lines did not deliver a lamp ($70) and 2 large boxes of clothing ($500). In the process of moving, they broke my TV ($200), mirror ($60), and picture frame ($45).

I am very disappointed in Cross Country Van Lines and will make sure that everyone I know is aware of their sorry business practices.
